Recovering files, will this idea work?

Hi guys, apologies if I am posting in the wrong section. I have an Windows 10 home HP laptop with a very small ssd drive which I admit is filled to the maximum. It now has an inaccessible boot load error. I can get into recovery mode but many hours of following tutorials have failed to fix the problem.
I now intend to fit a 1 Tb ssd and do a fresh install of Win 10 home onto it. Then put the old small ssd into an external enclosure and copy some files I really want to keep like photos and documents from it onto the new ssd. My question is, will this plan work or will it not be possible to recover the files in this way?

    Thanks and kind regards
    Ron

To back up important files these methods generally work unless the drive has completely failed:

    a) boot using a Ubuntu flash drive > copy and paste
    b) boot using a Windows 10 iso > notepad > copy and paste
    c) placing the drive into an empty bay of another computer > copy and paste
    d) using a HD enclosure > copy and paste

    e) boot from Windows PE and then copy and paste.

The problem is the folders will be owned by the old users SID so you will have to take ownership of folders unless you use Linux
