    Ashley,

I suggest just creating a custom power plan and setting it to keep the display on forever [which prevents S0 starting].

The only Dell software I keep is QuickSet and the hardware drivers. I check them monthly and install them fairly swiftly afterwards.
    - I never let WU install any drivers. I might be overly cautious. WU really messed things up once with a supposed printer driver update that caused many of us grief.
    - I never use any of those third-party driver utilities. For all I know, DriverEasy and DriverReviver might do no harm at all but the fact remains that they are useless.
For all the hardware supplied in your computer, Dell should be the source of hardware drivers.

I do not use Dell's SupportAssist. I go to Dell drivers and Downloads, put in my Dell Service tag and then look through the list.
    - I put it into chronological order but that is fairly useless because they change the supposed issue date when they re-check their database.
    - I file drivers away after installation so I have an easy means of checking which ones I've done [to counter their issue date folly]

Do a TenForums search about, "intermittent glitches when playing audio, usually for about half a second".
    - It is vaguely familiar as though I had seen a thread about it here at some stage.
    - If you don't get any joy then create a thread with that title.

You might also consider posting in the Dell user forums.

Presumably this is the same as going into the basic power options for the Balanced plan, and setting the display never to turn off?

In any case, it sounds like it's impossible to get the high performance plan on my laptop, without that risky Reddit method. I've turned the slider that appears when I click the battery icon up to "best performance", which I hope is something similar.

Another reason for my focusing on power management is that that's a recommendation given by LatencyMon, although I'm not sure how to act on it:

Thanks for the advice about driver sources.

    Ashley,

Yes, exactly the same but without disrupting your normal plan in case you want to stop experimenting and return to normal working.

I would also avoid disabling S0 entirely by using that Reddit method. It did give the impression of being readily reversible but I was not sure.
    - The author joined in a discussion in TenForums later on and was so belligerent that I ended up distrusting all his efforts. He was later banned from TenForums for reasons that I don't know.
