    SysMain no activity without internet connection?

    Hi

    I would like to start my question with first saying that my computer doesn't have any issues on my everyday usage.

    I just noticed that SysMain (previously known as SuperFetch) only starts doing it's task when my computer is connected to an in ternet connection (with or without internet access) and it would not start if there isn't any.

    Is this normal? Because even on my laptop it does this same thing even.

    Hello @RoasterMen
    I have not understood SysMain to be an internet specific related task, so what you observe is interesting.

    I am not suggesting you delete it : Enable or Disable SuperFetch in Windows

    What are you using to determine that SysMain is active or not? Are you saying SysMain service does not start until you connect to the internet?

    @steve108

    Hi

    Yes, it won't start until I have network connection in my system.

    Update: A little bit of observation from my laptop this time, SysMain took a while to start itself without any network connection on both Automatic Start and Automatic Start (Delayed).

    This behavior may be to prevent from high CPU usage until other necessary services and functions are running and completed. In the past, SysMain would cause high CPU usage which led to people disabling it, so MS minimized its impact at startup I theorize. I will confirm on my PC later and update.

    I don't like the SysMain behavior, to me its a must disable service. I notice when Dnsclient signal that you got internet it ill exchange a tiny amount of data with MS servers. Same happens sometimes when you run a exe, it blocks its execution, sends a tiny amount of data to MS and wait the return response. It has huge impact on HDD performance and some impact o processor performance with SSD.

    Hello @gordonbay, How you measuring/quantifying these impacts you write about/attribute to SysMain?

    Hmm so It's still a part of the telemetry service of Microsoft. Interesting.

    It's best to have SysMain disabled with SSD in my opinion. Still, it's all personal preference.

    @RoasterMen, I've not forgotten about you. Have not had the opportunity to reboot yet.
