    Slow boot

Our oldest computer (8 years more or less) is booting slower with the day.

I did a fresh install W10 a while ago to get rid of unwanted stuff, and at that time everything was blazing fast for an old computer.

But after 2004 booting is getting slower with the day.

Of course I followed all the suggestions I could find...............Start up programs are limited / indexing is off / fast start is off as well because some NVIDIA settings issues.

It's not a disaster to wait 5 minutes or so but who knows maybe somebody knows the golden key.

Hi some people find this happens with 2004: see
    https://www.tenforums.com/general-su...ml#post2040183

for starters - my post #2 has some links that may be of interest.

(Note: indexing should have nothing to do with this - it imposes no overhead on a normally functioning PC- much mythology here from XP days).

Another issue that can occur when upgrading for a few is low transfer rates on a disk. You can check that quite easily-
    a. look for 100% disk usage
    b. Try copying a large file back to the same disk and observe the transfer rate in task manager, performance tab.

If that occurs, there are different reasons from a driver to a duff disk (various threads here if you search for
    low transfer rate
    disk usage 100%

2004 also has given some people a range of issues- feel free to use build 1909 - also freely downloadable- but end of service life is May '21

    Hello @Robbie,
    1. I would use HD Sentinel to check the drives' health and make sure they are fine.
    2. Windows 10 2004 performs much faster/better with a SSD boot drive.
    3. Windows 10 2004 indexer is very low impact when it detects user activity. I have it enabled on all my PCs including one with only a HDD boot drive. Once it builds the index initially, which could take hours (so best to leave the PC on until it's done), then I don't even notice it.

HDD health is OK after several tests.

I know a SSD would help a lot, but it's an older computer and once it's started it works very well.

So let's just accept it like my bones are getting older too.
