    Hibernate not working

Had a shortcut for hibernate, which has always worked in the past, but now it seems to simply restart the PC. I tried Hibernate from the start menu and again it simply seemed to restart, also offered the boot menu, which i thought previously it didnt.

    Any ideas please ?

Have you got 'Fast startup' enabled? If so disable it and then try switching PC fully off and then switching back on again after a minute? This will cause the PC to 'refresh' from the beginning rather than using the hiberfil.sys file which can become corrupt. You can always re-enable Fast startup if you prefer it that way.

Also the hiberfil.sys file can take up Gigabytes of disk space so, if you are low on disk space, disabling Fast Start-up gets you this space back.

Also are you using the shortcut as shown in the following link? Create a Shortcut to Put Your Windows Computer into Hibernation . If not then try that instead of the shortcut that you are currently using.

Also see What Is hiberfil.sys and How Do I Delete It? .

    Good luck

Fast start up already off, tried command line as shown ( think was already the same ), But made no difference have only 45Gb free on my boot SSD, is that enough ? Also when waking from hibernate I don’t think I am meant to see the boot options menu, is that correct ?

Should I see the boot menu during startup ? I thought when it used to work ok that it went straight to the previous desktop ?

didabling enabling made no difference 🤯

    Thank you for your reply.

You must be seeing that 'cos you're not resuming from hibernation and maybe you've configured it to give you some option. See previous.

Hibernate used to work just a few weeks ago, I am sure it went straight to the previous desktop.....wish I knew what has happened unless it’s a windows update ?

If post #4 doesn't give you some clues (no comment on that) then...

-> restore a suitable disk image....

Suspect updates? Examine your update history over that period and uninstall.

If your own research and these ideas don't help, then please create a new user for test purposes, log in, see if hibernate works for that user.

If it doesn't, and only then, you can try an in-place upgrade repair install which keeps all progs and data.

You have 2004 so a 2004 iso file (media creation tool) is what you need.

No guarantees, as if it's a device waking your PC and interrupting hibernation, for example, you could assume that will still happen.
