Out Of Memory When Copying From USB Card Reader

    Win 10 Pro 1903 (18362.1082)
Copying to a Hybrid drive with 400Gb space
    12Gb Ram

Transferring about 3Gb of video files from a card reader to the PC and the speed see-sawed between about 28Mb/sec and zero where it stayed for around 10 seconds before resuming again. This repeated for almost half the total transfer until the error message below appeared and the process stopped.

The memory and CPU don't show up as under heavy load so I'm not clear what memory is causing the problem. I tried the same exercise copying to my C: drive which is an SSD and still got some of the see-saw behavior but the process did complete.

    Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Is your flash card a known good card? If you have available another computer, does it work properly on another system?

I have to wonder if this is a symptom of a "fake" flash card. There are a lot of so called fake cards out there that pretend to be one capacity while actually being much smaller and this can cause all sorts of errors. I would suggest testing the card using a utility designed specifically for this purpose.

    Here is one such utility:

RMPrepUSB - 07 - All about 'Fake' SD cards and USB Flash drives

There are many others out there as well.

Start with that. If the test passes, we can explore other possibilities.

Apologies - just noticed that you said it worked fine to the C: drive.

If you are copying at least the same amount of data from C: to the hybrid drive where you are having difficulties, does that work?

Another thing to check. Make sure you have a sufficiently sized paging file on your system.

    See this tutorial:

Manage Virtual Memory Pagefile in Windows 10

I would suggest allowing the system to manage the page file size.

Thanks for the suggestions - I'm not able to be near the computer at the moment but will take a look at the page file settings when I get back.

Likely page file too small or virtual memory disabled.
