Windows 10 is very slow and often spikes the disk at 100 percent.

My computer is very slow and laggy for no apparent reason for months now. My hdd spikes often to 100% on task manager even with low transfer rates. And there isnt a usual process behind it. Sometimes it just starts spiking out of nowhere, sometimes when i launch a game, sometimes i launch firefox et cetera. I have tried everything from defragmenting, disabling superfetch, windows defender, disabling search, updating drivers, checking drive for errors and many many more.
Any help would be much appriciated.

    Hello and welcome to tenforums
Getting a SSD boot drive will most likely cure this and is one of the best upgrades for your PC. Did this start after you upgraded to 2004?

    Check for BIOS updates too.

Check the PC or motherboard manufacturers website for your specific model for latest BIOS and how to update it.

You should be able to tell from Windows Update history when 2004 feature update was installed.

You can look at Task Manager to see what's peaking disk usage.

You can use Crystal Disk Info to check the health of the HDD.

I checked the history i guess i had 2004 when i upgraded from windows 7 from the get go. I check task manager often but it is usually diferent processes that cause 100 percent disk usage not just one. The weird part is proceses such as windows update, system run and no problem then they appear later and i have 100 percent disk usage. It is especially bad in battlefield 4 when i play and it is all laggy.

Could be a low level driver problem - a low transfer rate is something that has been reported a number of times at various times.

Feel free to research tenforums - search for
    100% disk usage
    low disk transfer rate
    for examples

You've given no information on your PC, unfortunately- how old is it?
    What is it?
What is the last edition of Windows for which drivers are available?

Bear in mind a new set of drivers can be delivered with each feature update, thus a PC may run fine with, say, 1903, but not with 2004.

It would be most helpful if you go to your profile and fill out as much PC information as you can. Processor, RAM, GPU, etc are all important factors to know when trying to help you.

Appears to be from around 2014.

What would be of interest would be a screenshot of your task manager, Performance (disk) tab when you experience lagging or disk usage of 100%

Did you have this problem before upgrading to 2004?
