    TRIM not working

When I try to run TRIM (the old defrag) on my SSD in system properties or in command prompt it won't run. TRIM is enabled with a 0 in command prompt. I'm using AHCI. What can I check? I'm using win10 2004. Thanks guys.

There are a couple of known issues with TRIM in Windows 10 2004.

    Try Windows key + R

    Enter %windir%\system32\dfrgui.exe

How do you know it doesnt work? All it does is make old file spaces free not like defrag that moves lots of files and take a long time most makers have a util fro there drive which can trim

    Trim

When TRIM worked... it gave "percentages" as to how far along it had run. You could see it working. Nothing now.

I never saw any "percentages" behaviour with Trim.

You can check it in Event viewer,
    Log - Applications
    Source - Defrag
    EventID - 258

Here's an Event viewer, Custom view definition that will show you those results.
    - Just unzip it and you'll see it as Defrag.xml
    - Just use the Event viewer, Import custom view entry on the right-hand side.
    - It's called Defrag because it also catches those results
    - Defrag.zip

    You'll see results like these

Because of the reported bug in Optimise I have deliberately not updated any of my SSD machines to 2004. However, on my HDD machines the defrag gives a running percentage, as it did in 1909.

    Trim

OldNavyGuy, I'm familiar with the problem with 2004 and TRIM where it keeps saying the drive need optimized right after running it. I ran %windir%\system32\dfrgui.exe as you suggested but it didn't work. I checked "event viewer" to see if it ran and it didn't. My laptop runs TRIM just fine 'cept for the "needs optimizing" showing constantly.

I turned off Windows Defrag a long time ago and use third party programs that specialize in defragging a system.

How are you trying to run it in Command Prompt?

    defrag C: /L

    Code:
    C:\Windows\system32>defrag C: /L

Invoking retrim on Windows 10 Insider (C:)...

    The operation completed successfully.

    Post Defragmentation Report:

            Volume Information:
                    Volume size = 348.82 GB
                    Free space = 317.92 GB

            Retrim:
Total space trimmed = 324.52 GB

    Trim

I use the command......Optimize-Volume -DriveLetter C -ReTrim -Verbose....in command prompt/admin. Nothing shows in event viewer that it had run. I first thought it was because I upgraded to 2004 but my laptop with it's Crucial 240 Gig SSD with 2004 runs TRIM with no problems.
