Is it worth enabling High Performance Power Plan on a desktop PC?

Hello all,

I would like to know if it is worth enabling High Performance Power Plan on a desktop PC while gaming?

And if it is,then I would please you to tell me how do I automatically enable the High Performance Power Plan only while gaming?

My OS is Win 10 x64 Version 1909 (OS Build 18363.778).

Well now, I am not a gamer but since in the grand scheme of things the hi-powered games and their players appear to be a driving force in bigger, better, faster, with the play it would be good to get all the performance possible. The bottom line would be the cost/affordability of power in staying with the high performance versus balanced.

Since hardware is involved I'd say No, usually have to reboot to get the changes but I've had no need to try that particular feature. With Notebooks power is a bigger concern such as how long can it run on battery only.

It makes no difference other than increase power consumption somewhat.

The main objective of the Power Plans is to save power on a Laptop or anything that runs off a battery.

The turbo frequency of the CPU is the same max frequency as in the standard Balanced plan, and when required that kicks in automatically which is what you wanted anyway.

In reality I have tested both scenarios and there is no difference in performance as regards games.

Not out of the box but something like Process Lasso can do it.
If you're on a Ryzen platform you want to stay with AMD balanced plan.

PS: Don't expect noticeable performance uplift from balanced to HP plans, it will be more latency improvement than FPS increase.

No, it's not worth it, unless you're dealing with extremely latency-centric operations eg. pro audio mixing (and even then you'd want to disable c-states etc in bios for those scenarios).
For regular stuff like games, where nanosecond latency isn't really an issue, it'll just use up additional power when you're not gaming, and make little difference during gaming.
