Slow starting when switching on new Laptop - help please!

Thanks to you all on this forum over the last 10 days I have sorted and loaded everything on my new Acer Aspire 3 laptop and it now works perfectly except............#

When I first switch it on it seems to take much longer than my old Acer to load up ie for the icons to appear on the task bar to appear and the little blue circle goes on for about a minute before I can go into anything.

Someone told me to disable most of the items in start up which I did but this has made no difference to leaving them all there. I am still running Windows version 1903 the same as my old Acer and new Acer showed as being faster when I purchased it.

Once it loads then no problem - it is definately faster finding web sites etc.

    Thank you

There are a few different models of the ACER Aspire 3. It would help us to know what exact hardware you have in there.

Get the free version of Speccy, here: Download Speccy | Find your computer specs, free!

...and post a screen shot of the main page. Just the main page. It will look like this...

    Thanks for that Ghot

Cannot do this sorry (I am 80)! So I will write here what it says:

    Win10 v10.0 18362 Bo
    Acer Aspire A314-21
    X64
    AMD A6-9220e 1.6 ghz
    Simbos 3.0
    Embedded 2.10
    4GB installed
    Total 3.88GB

Sorry- that is all I could find.

Once it has switched on - after a few minutes it is reasonably fast

Hi. I'm not an expert but it seems to me that you do not have enough RAM installed. You should have at least 8GB of RAM installed for Windows 10 to run efficiently.

I am told by mu computer supplier that 8 gb is plenty of ram for this price laptop and is suitable for gaming - but I only use mine for websearches and emails!

A point here - for many years I have installed Classic Shell on my laptops (inc this one) as I like the desktop style from the old days of Win 7.

Does anyone know for certain that Classic Shell would slow down start up etc? I used it on my old Acer Aspire V13 and that was ok with 8gb!

    Thank you

I thought you only have 4GB of RAM according to what you said: Win10 v10.0 18362 Bo
    Acer Aspire A314-21
    X64
    AMD A6-9220e 1.6 ghz
    Simbos 3.0

    Total 3.88GB
I also have always used Classic Shell and it never caused any slowdown on Startup.

The specs you provided say there is only 4GB of RAM installed. Add to that a slow processor, and I feel certain, that this is where your slow starting problem lies.

Windows 10 runs a LOT of processes in the back ground. Once those processes are up and running, Win 10 seems to handle the load quite well. But during startup... getting all those processes up and running will be a slow process.

On top of that... does your laptop have an SSD or a hard drive? Hard drives are another thing that causes slower startup.

/edit Short version: You want a fast starting laptop? Then spend $900 + on the laptop. :)

/edit 2 Things that make a computer start fast.,,

    1. An SSD
    2. A much faster CPU.
    3. More RAM. I would say 8GB minimum, and 16GB is probably the current sweet spot.

    Example: Acer Nitro 5 Gaming Laptop, 15.6" IPS Full HD, GTX 1650, Core i5-9300H up to 4.10 GHz, 16GB RAM, 256GB SSD+1TB HDD, Backlit, RJ-45 Ethernet, BT 5.0, USB-C, Win 10 - Newegg.com

This ofc, is overkill, but it would start really fast.

/edit3 Now, for YOUR current laptop, you would want to open Task Manager and check the Startup tab.
The fewer the number of items here, the faster the computer will start. The computer I'm using now, I just built about a month ago, and have very little software installed. This is MY Task Manager Startup tab...

I'm not sure yet, that I even NEED these three items. In YOUR case you can right click any of the items on YOUR list and choose to disable it... (after checking first, to see if it's a necessary item or not).

Side note: Do a search on these forums for: "how to post a screen shot". Like this...

    https://www.tenforums.com/gtsearch.p...a.x=10&sa.y=15

At this page, you will probably want to read both the... How to take a screen shot, and then the How to post a screen shot. This will make it much easier for you tom SHOW us things you see on YOUR screen. Which, will make it much easier for us to help you.
