CrystalDiskInfo is showing bad sectors on your C drive. This will only get worse as the drive is failing. If files existed on those bad sectors, it is most likely lost, unless you pay for data recovery from specialized technicians (can be expensive). I hate to say it, but a new drive is the only cheap fix. If you check with hard disk sentinel, it will probably show the same problem.

Sea Tools was supposed to be ran in normal boot.
So why is that better than running Seatools Bootable from a USB drive?

Interesting that HD Tune didn't flag either attribute.

The OP should be doing frequent disk images in preparation.

2 days of troubleshooting, and still recommending running diagnostic software ... is it worth it ??

Backup the data, dump the drive and insert a new one. 12years is a pretty good life for a drive.

Windows 10 should run perfectly on 8GB RAM, swap the old drive for an SSD and it will seem like a new machine.

Download Windows 10 Home for free (use Windows Media Creation Tool), and do a clean install on the new SSD. It'll activate automatically.

And consider leaving Norton out of any future equation; really served no purpose in warning AFTER a problem arose.

Thank you to all of you.

That's why I have always backed this up with Acronis. I agree 12 years is a very long time.

And I would replace this with a new Solid State hard drive.

But wouldn't it still be sluggish with 8 gb? Intel Core (TM)2 Quad CPU 2.4 GHz 2.39 GHZ

And since I have everything backed up on Acronis True Image 2020, wouldn't it be easiest to move everrything over by doing a full recovery to the new Solid State hard drive?

I'm really perplexed about keeping this 12 year old computer with a quad core processor.....it just seems to antiquated.

I haven't researched desktops for many years. But I know that there are newer processors now than the Intel I7 which is what I am using now on my laptop that I am writing back to you on.

The desktop is still in safe mode as I haven't gone over to it yet this morning!

Based on everyone's comments since last night, I doubt it is even worth finishing any recommended tests.

Thank you again to all of you for all of your help so far!!!

Check disk took hours to run (on a healthy disk it takes minutes).
I also agree that 8G of memory is a lot of memory for normal use.
