On newer Windows versions it was changed to 10 days.

    Welcome to Ten Forums.

It hasn't been 30 days for a long time, Starting with the release of 1607 it's 10 days by default.

"Based on our user research, we noticed most users who choose to go back to a previous version of Windows do it within the first several days, ... As such, we changed the setting to 10 days to free storage space used by previous copies."

Though you can change this. Starting with version 1803 you can set the period to anything between 2 to 60 days.

I always run Disk Cleanup as administrator and select Previous Windows installation(s) for deletion soon after every major update. On occasion when Windows.old is still there after, I open Command Prompt as administrator and run rd C:\Windows.old /s. Confirm with y. You can check to make sure it's gone by running dir C:\.
