Recycle Bin problem Windows 10 2004

I have done this twice: I have dragged files to the recycle bin and they stayed on the desktop. After rebooting, the files are gone, but it doesn't happen all the time. That means you don't know if the file is deleted or where it is. Sometimes I put files in the recycle bin and leave them for awhile before deleting them, but I can't do that now.

If you either select the file and hit the delete key, or rt click it, click delete, do those work consistently?

    They do so far.

Just had the same problem as described in post #1, but I tested delete after trying to move it to the recycle bin and it said:
"Are you sure you want to move this file to the recycle bin"
    and then:
    "Could not find this item"

Tried to copy and it said: "Could not find this item"

Both delete key and right click delete act the same.

Have you been using Refresh to bowl that out as the problem?

    F5, or
    right-click Refresh

I just double clicked the file and it opened notepad (.txt) just like it should and asked if I wanted to create this file.

Pressed F5 and the file disappeared.

I recreated the file, pressed delete and it went to the recycle bin. Apparently it is only the drag and drop that is a problem.

Be aware that this does not happen every time, the file I was testing was built on Notepad2 as a .txt file and left to sit over night because it worked fine the day before. I just tried an .xls file and it worked as it should so this is a freak that is not consistently repeatable. It may well be that moving it to the recycle bin and then restoring it as I did may be upsetting something, but to this point, unrepeatable.

Yes, that means it is a Refresh problem.

At least, now that you have proved it's a Refresh problem, you know how to respond when it happens.

    Refesh problems are always inconsistent.

I always try to remember to reboot each computer each day to hold this problem at bay. Sometimes I go a month or longer without seeing a Refesh problem, sometimes a week.

Refesh problems have been around since XP if not earlier. Don't waste your life searching for then trying the solutions that are suggested online. They do not work.

This is the first time I have run into this since Windows 3... The bigger problem is that the file does not show in the recycle bin and if you want to restore it, you are out of luck. I would suggest creating a "To Be Deleted" folder.

    Try Refreshing that.

Perhaps I've been reading this whole thread wrong because I cannot see any previous report that-the file does not show in the recycle bin.
