I've been defraging my HDDs for years and it hasn't harmed any of them yet. The one in my System One has clocked up nearly 4 years powered up, of which 2.4 years were 'loaded hours' (in active use).

I can't say what the previous owner did for its first 3 years (as far as I can tell it was lightly used until I got hold of it) but in the 6 years I've owned it I've defragged at least one a month (plus a few full Macrium restores). It has had a hard life as my main machine, but what doesn't kill you makes you stronger

    Perhaps I've just been lucky......

But did you see any good that came out of it ? Whenever I look at my HDDs with a defrag program, there's less than 1% fragmented.

Defragging is wearing your HDDs out............it has no use at all , except you will buy new one(s) sooner...........

Yes, particularly after a Feature Update which increased fragmentation quite a lot, but also after each monthly CU which would increase fragmentation by a couple of percent.

I have this too. I actually found out about this from Britec09

    YouTube

Explains it well and then I followed the logs and sure enough same thing for all my system (5 of them)

I saw this about a week ago and I ran TRIM. Two days later I saw this video and so i checked and sure enough it said "Needs Optimization" and I was like, huh? I just did it a day or two ago.

Anyways all systems are turned off until they fix this.

Your drives should be 0% Fragmented all the time. The less you have to defragment them the longer they will last.
