    Mega long boot up

Laptop will either, sit there with a blank screen for about 90 seconds before showing me the login screen, then logs in pretty quick. Or will get to the login screen pretty quick but then take a long time to actually log in.

    Long black screen

    Long log in

    20200603_144720.mp4 - Google Drive

Was fine, starting up in a matter of seconds until I copied over my plex server media files, restarted it, it sat there with a black screen and the fans going for a few minutes so i held the power button down. Now, it takes forever to start up.

I've since uninstalled plex and deleted those files, not that the existence of files on the drive should have any affect on the boot up time....

How do I troubleshoot this? what is going on in between the HP logo and the spinning thing and it showing me the login screen? task manager tell me start up is 6seconds... (lies)

Yep it's an SSD. I wouldn't have imagined it got errors in the less than a week I've had it so haven't done an sfc yet. i'll do one of those. anything you would recommend?

sfc found no problems. tried booting in safe mode and it still took ages. Turned safe mode off and restarted, got to the login screen at a normal speed but then say spinning saying "Welcome" for about a minute, plus the fans are going mental even though it's not doing anything....

I've rolled back to 1909 and that has fixed it for now, until it happens again.

I have my boottrace file from before which I'd like to look at but I cannot get the boot phase graph to show up in WPA at all. I've set the profile to FullBoot but Boot Phases is not there

I have turned on OS boot information and it seems to be spending all the time waiting for profsvc

    Hi,
can you share your boot trace ?

I suspect the graphic card driver. Have you made an update of your driver ?

Include PSU. cooler, case, peripherals and anything attached to the computer by wired or wireless (mouse, keyboard, headset, printer, xbox, USB wireless network card, etc.)

Was the computer offered an upgrade or was it performed with an iso to upgrade to 2004?

A bit more info , I spent hours on this last night, created a new user account and it booted up fine. I rolled back to 1909 then upgraded to 2004 again and it has been fine. ( I did have this issue on a previous one of these laptops on 1909 but didn't go to this level of troubleshooting, I didn't turn on the verbose logging or do a boot trace so I have no confirmation it was profsvc too but I imagine it was, as both times I had just un7zipped my plex metadata and media folders to move my library over to the new laptop (which i recall crashing now and when I did it previously) and I read in a few places that profsvc can hang when the temp folder has too many files in. I tried diskcleanup and that didn't fix it but i subsequently read that diskcleanup doesn't always clean everything. so that problem could entirely have been me filling that temp folder when unzipping 167,000 files.....

So, although i've "sort of" fixed it, if there's anything else in the boot trace that would back that up that would be great as I'm still deciding whether I'm going to accept this laptop and I'd like to know it won't happen again.

    Thanks
