    PC incredibly slow.

    Version 1909 (OS Build 18363.836)

It takes quite a while to boot.

I keep most of my files on an external hard drive.

Opening a folder and displaying the contents takes ages.

What can I do to speed things up (a lot) ?

Would it help to keep copies on the external drive and keep he originals on the desktop.

    click the file tab
    click export
    another window will open

If you have an external drive at start it will slow it to a crawl as it will have to wait for USB to come up then read the drive which may be slow so it will have to read c into memory then do the same on external

My strong advice is to uninstall all of the third party maintenance and system management programs/apps you have installed.

Windows 10, may have its faults, but IMHO it is the best OS that Microsoft have offered, from the aspect of managing its own system.
It checks the file system itself, without you even knowing it is doing so, unless it finds errors that cannot be fixed without a disk check, in greater depth than the automatic one, and then it notifies you of that.

It manages on its own the trim/optimiation of SSD drives and defrag of hard drives.

It keeps your drivers up to date, yes occasionally, it does install the wrong one, but the liaison between Microsoft and the various hardware manufacturers and software driver offers has increased greatly. Additionally version updates of windows are promulgated to the industry before being offered and therefore the chances of errors are lessened.

In short you have Driver Booster,Advanced System Care, CCleaner and others, they are IMHO, and it is only my opinion, but definitely shared by others, Windows 10 does not need or indeed always work well with these third party tools running on startup

As I say, this is not put to you as the official stance of this site, only as my opinion.

You only have to look at the number of errors reported on the log you attached to see that all is far from OK

If you wish to follow that advice, then when you have uninstalled the items mentioned and returned to your topic, I will provide guidance on further checks

PaintShopPro7 is out of date software unsuitable for 10 - your logs show it has a problem
Is this a free trial version, a previously purchased version, or what please.

Unless you have major space issues, that's the standard preferred method: originals on an internal and copies on an external or a second internal.

You wouldn't normally want to continually rely on a relatively slow USB external port for anything--if at all possible. That's always going to be slower than an internal.

    I can't get msinfo32 to work again.

Paint Shop Pro 7 is not a trial version. I don't remember where I got it from, but it's on a disc in a normal transparent case.

I have the msinfo report that is where I got the detail from
As I said IMHO forgetting the problem of the external drive, which is certainly not the best way, as mentioned, I have little doubt that your problems are firstly as I have mentioned and in view of your difficulty in getting system information to run, perhaps other problems as well.

If you wish my help then uninstall advanced system care, driver booster, CCleaner and IF you have reinstalled it, since you last uninstalled it Mail Washer Pro

    @Stanley1961 -

Problem is that all these add-on utility softwares and poorly written applications tend to slow you down even more.
Paint Shop Pro is one of them. I would never use a Corel product. It's spaghetti code.
