PC freezing for a fraction of a second randomly

My Son had an issue with his previous PC, where it froze for a fraction of a second randomly. Believed it could be hardware issue, but it’s still happening with his new PC, with 100% new hardware. I can only assume it’s a software issue. He has done a clean boot, but didn’t help. I Jane suggested to do a clean install of W10PRO and install one game only, maybe Counter strike and evaluate if it happens again.

meanwhile is there anything obvious I could look for that could cause this ?

How many Apps., web pages, browsers, videos, multi monitors open and/or running in background when the issue occurs. NONE
Could be something with online multiplayer game server load, and/or just pushing the pc too hard for its spec. Happens with all ga,es Apps even when not playing games
Are all the pc components drivers/firmware/bios up to date.YES
And what are the full system specs of pc.

as I said though, this problem existed with his previous build, and the only link is that the new PC has a Macrium reflect image.....so can’t help wondering if it’s something to do with the OS or settings

Great news, my Son took my advice and did a clean install of W10, played CS and a few other games, without any freezing issues whatsoever, so can only assume it’s software, most likely the OS....wish I could pinpoint exactly the cause though, so he will now continue with the new install.......guess will never know

Doing a clone to a new ssd is probably the worst thing you can do with software especially that freeware crap people seem to love so much !

A fresh instal is always preferred - I did an install the other day to make my dual boot Win10 240GB drive using a USB stick & from switch on to desktop screen took 9 mins to install on my system.

I always use a separate partition for files & upload to One Drive often in case of an error or re-install, so no loss of data "as with a 3600 CPU software loads to drive in seconds".

while I do agree with you about cloning t a new ssd, that wasn’t the issue, there was something not right about the original OS or software, registry etc. As the freezing issue was happening with the old PC and continued with the new build, only common denominator is the software....couldn’t identify the problem, but now everything ok with a clean install and most of the original Software now installed.....would just like to know what caused the problem, but guess will never know....

Put it down to corrupt data or a virus/trojan that got removed but could not be repaired, sector damage, normally the best cure is a fresh install.

Keep a mental note of your new install & if anything goes wrong try to remember what was the last thing you installed of did that causes a system crash ?

I crashed last night out of a game for no reason but re-installed the gpu drivers the re-loaded the game & was ok after that so sometimes its only a small bit of data corrupt/missing that cause a major problem.

Keep restore points after each bit of software is installed so you can go back to the previous point if the system starts to act funny because of poor programming from those freeware crap programs people love to install, they are like the new torrent software downloads just with bad code instead of hacked software sometimes.

My 2 cents:
Cloning is perfectly fine if the image is to be used for same system if issues arise. I'm of the mindset, with new hardware, especially a complete new build a clean install is a must do.

Agree with all that’s said....will get my son to setup a scheduled restore point, good idea
