    Reformatting a DVD+R, 4.7 GB Disc - Question

    Reformatting a DVD+R, 4.7 GB Disc - Question

I was attempting to delete all files on a DVD disc that holds 4.7 GB. I did a reformat and the disc now shows 0 files. I then checked the Properties for the disc and it still shows most of my disc full. See screenshot #35.

I then attempted to copy a 4.52 GB folder and got screenshot #36. With the above results, I doubt I could copy a 4 GB file.

So, my question is, after reformatting why does Properties still show a mostly full disc and not allow me to copy a large file (less than 4.7 GB)?

    I use Windows 10.

    Thanks,
    Jerry

    1. The actual size of 4.7 GB DVD is 4.37 GB as shown on the picture.

    2. Only DVD-RW/DVD+RW and DVD-RAM are rewritable. DVD-R and DVD+R can be written to only once.

    Exactly.
R = Recordable, once [unless a program can be installed that will change it].
RW = ReWriteable, can be erased and used again or like a USB Thumb drive, added to later if not closed.
The - and + on DVDs used to signify competing formats, most drives nowadays handle both.
DL or D/L = Dual Layer, have only seen/purchased as DVD+R/DL, holds about 8GB.
CD are either R or RW, the - means nothing, just a spacer.
The face of an ODD tray specifies what it can handle.
