    scrolling bad

New event. When placing cursor over a list or row of columns, even the volume bar scrolling is automatic and proceeds to one end of the series and stops. The scrolling also stops when I move the cursor away from the list but am unable to select anything in the list. Not all the possible lists are effected. Other sites have recommended mouse/kb fixes. Have tried all those but the phenomena persists. Have not had any known updates recently and don't have a restore point to try. Any other suggestions? W10Pro 1903

Hi, you have a laptop - does this happen with no external mouse connected - i.e. just using the touchpad?

Conversely, if you disable the touchpad, do you see the same effect using an external mouse?
(You could disable this in Safe Mode if you have difficulty)

    When did this start happening?
When was your last Windows update? (I know you say you haven't had one recently).

Have a look at your driver updates too - Update History at the bottom. Anything recent there?

    This sounds a bit like
    Settings
    Ease of access
    Interaction, Mouse
    Change other mouse options
Scroll inactive windows when I hover over them

You first post was unhelpfully misleading. You give (minimal) specs stating a laptop and describe the problem without stating you're talking about a different machine, and no apology. Good luck.

And 'scroll inactive windows', whilst widely cited with respect to your smptom, shouldn't have any adverse effect in a properly functioning system.

What in my original post made you think I was talking about a laptop? I didn't mention the presence of a touchpad.

You didn't mention it but under My Computer you list that you have a laptop. When asking for help it helps us to know as much info as possible to help locate and solve your problem.
