Build 1909 Windows Explorer high CPU usage.

    Hey all,

Not sure what is going on here. I get very high CPU usage (around 50% on a Ryzen 2700x) and it comes from windows explorer.

When I try to open windows explorer, it is extremely slow. This problem is intermittent. Sometimes I reboot and it doesn't show up.

I couldn't get into the file system to run process explorer, so I rebooted, issue went away, and now I have process explorer up and running. If it happens again, I'll be sure to get a screenshot.

I'm not sure if the issue is coming from my Samba shares from my server, or a local disk, or if it is a bug in Windows itself. Any idea?

I basically know nothing, but from this I can assume your issue is user specific. I'm running 1909 and mine seems to be just fine. It's a fairly new laptop, so I've got minimal files stored also. I don't have anything synced to the one drive or any Samba shares, or any shares.

    Hello,

I am seeing the same. I am running Win10 as VM in a Proxmox Virtual Environment; I noticed the fans of server spinning high and cpu core tempartures around 75°C/167°F on a basically idle machine.

Explorer.exe showed a constant load between 15% to 20%, typically on one CPU core only.
I analyzed with the Sysinternal Process Explorer, and there the only thing I could figure out that it is explorer.exe itself, no dependent task (something like iCloud Sync, OneDrive Sync etc. was not responsible).

This fun seemed to have started with the cumulative March 2020 Windows update.

I reset the VM to a state before the March Updates were installed and the issue went away.
None of the other solutions I googled help (e.g. Optane Drivers with Memory Pinning etc. is not installed not relevant on my machine).

One more note, explorer.exe started to misbehave / be slow, too. E.g. if you deleted a file it takes a while and multiple refreshes to see that it is really gone; logging off the current user takes forever etc.

    Best regards,

Perform clean boot state to find out if any one of the startup services or programs causing the issue.

I had the same problem for a long time, I have tried 10s of solutions but nothing worked.

until I figured out myself then the problem solved.

    1- Uninstall iCloud for windows.
    2- Restart
3- Reinstall iCloud the version made for Windows 7 Windows 8 from the iCloud website and do not install the version of the Windows store.
