Windows lags once a week or so

Hello. My first post here so hopefully im not breaking any rules.

Once a week or so my windows lags too much.
Even a refresh takes few seconds. Opening 2 chrome tabs is almost impossible. Cpu usage is about 6-7% and the memory is 55% or so. I tried killing few processes but the usage memory wont go down.
The only solution is powering off the laptop and then rebooting after an hour or so. Sometimes rebooting few times helps.

    Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Version 1909 OS Build 18363.720 but this happened with other versions well.

    1. Hello - no you are not breaking any rules

    2.
Once a week or so my windows lags too much
This may tend to suggest that it is a weekly process that is running

Does that mean anything to you please - third party backup program
Scheduled scan with the Anti Virus -

    3. Your computer spec for the Dell reports Antivirus - None
Please confirm which Antivirus is in use - the included Windows Defender
    or a third party one
OR indeed NONE, you having turned Defender off - for example.

    4. The use of memory does not really indicate at this stage a problem as Windows 10 will use - the available memory, holding some in Standby memory which it will then release as and when required.

I just checked the windows updates and they were set at 3am-5am so I think there is no problem there.

I have no antivirus installed. Im pretty sure that I have disabled the default antivirus, but when I check that option it says "Your Virus and threat protection is managed by your organization. Also "Windows Defender Antivirus is snoozed.

    Thanks

I just disabled this tool by Disabling inheritance in the security tab.

    Thanks for the reply.

I think Paulco may well have hit the nail on the head.
I never suspected Windows updates, but referring to the AV question
I do not in the usual use of a home computer think it wise to run without some manner of active protection

Hello. Im back after a week becouse I didn't want to report early.

Laptop was fine for a week. Opened today at 12pm, was running great. Opened at 3PM and the same problem happened again. Still experiencing the slowdown/lag. Also Fps is very low if I try to play any game.

Is there anything else I can look at so I can fix it?
    Thanks!

on your opening post and I suggested
This may tend to suggest that it is a weekly process that is running
    Therefore
    1. Have you now managed to further explore the settings of Windows defender
Is there any other antivirus shown in Settings - apps

and when this lag occurs open task manager Ctrl Alt Delete, if not on processes click that on the bar
then click the CPU column to set the arrow pointing down so that the process using the most cpu resources is at the top
    See what is shown.
Do not close task manager simply minimize and then you can of course open as necessary
click the view on the top bar and then refresh when you next check

You could also have a look in the 'Task Scheduler' Library, see if/what kicks in around the time of your problem.

Thank you for the responses but I never managed to resolve the problem.
Now it happens more often but I have noticed that it lag appears out of nowhere. I can only fix it but unplugging the power cable, removing the battery and restarting several times.

Edit: On battery it works fine. Probably I might have a faulty charger. I read somewhere that Dell limits the cpu usage when the charger is faulty or something alone those lines.
Edit2: Sometimes this lag has happened after turning up the brightness using the keyboard hotkeys.

I do not know if personal circumstances have prevented you replying before, but there is no chance of fixing it or even diagnosing the problem, if you cannot reply to suggestions and then follow the next suggested action, on some manner of frequency other than 10 April to 17 August.

If you wish to try further it will be my pleasure to try and assist
