Where does windows save the defrag and optimize drives Last ran data?

So i keep ended up with a barren window that says "never ran" for all my drives. I'd love to be able to keep track/keep an eye on this data.

I use ccleaner when i feel the urge, and i imagine something I have checked in there is purging the data, i just dont know what :P

In CCleaner, under System, uncheck Windows Log Files and Windows Error Reporting. Under Advanced uncheck everything.

    See if that helps.

    Hi, you might want to
    a. enable History for the scheduled task responsible
Enable Windows Task Scheduler History - TechyGeeksHome
    b. try running the task manually and check it runs.

Well, it seems that ccleaner doesnt have a hand in it, if i run it and restart - it doesnt save regardless. That seems a bigger issue now

also i tried starting the task manually, and it certainly started - but it started defragmenting my ssd, not trimming it so i stopped it immediately.

a little digging and it looks like the data is written here i think
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Dfrg

of course mine is not. as i run it, and nothing seems to change in those keys. So either A) its not, or B) on two different pc's my registry isnt being written to by the defrag utility.

    i cannot win lol

In the task scheduler make sure that you enable all tasks history.

This command was ran using administrative PS: Optimize-Volume -DriveLetter C -ReTrim -Verbose

This was the recorded result from two days ago:

is that supposed to enabled by default? i just checked and mine is not enabled. However on the one pc that isnt displaying the issue (my laptop), it was not enabled either.

I was hoping to find it was enabled there, then this was going to be my eureka moment (apart from why it became disabled to begin with)

You've now had the same suggestion twice, starting with enabling task history.

However I'm unsure why Windows would perform a defrag on a SSD as you mentioned.

Im less concerned with whether that will work or not, than i am with why it would be necessary suddenly on some pc's and not the other.

that means its a workaround, not a fix (assuming it works) which was my reason in questioning. Not that i was contesting it or ignoring it. I'll try it real quick so its there as a point of information though. Just gotta wait for my super slow super old laptop-of-doom to finish its over the network backup. Incredible how long that can take on an old pc with an old 5400rpm laptop drive. Even for marginal amounts of data relatively speaking.

will report back when i know more.

as far as the defrag thing goes. If i initiate the optimize from within the application, it trims. if initiated via that task, it defragged. #boggle

beginning to hate windows lately. its had me pinned down with issues the less ocd amongst us would probably ignore. These are the cards i was dealt however :P

Are you running a standard public release or a Windows Insider slow build?
This is a known and ongoing issue in the Windows Insider Slow ring builds.
