No, I steer clear of those sorts of programs. I let Windows and other programs that are able to, keep themselves updated. Anything else I check and update manually, and only from the original manufacturer.

Nope. I find it highly unnecessary for a program to run in the background performing a task that I can accomplish myself in a matter of seconds.

I can see it being handy for when you've forgotten to manually check on several programs after some period of time. I was just going through my security stuff and it's a reminder that out of date software's can have vulnerabilities...

Absolutely no need whatsoever for this type of monitoring. Individual program's can usually attend to their own updating, if not automatically then by manually advising the user.

Similar sentiments for hardware driver updating software ... if it ain't broke, the don't try and fix it (just because some 4th party software says so !! )

It is definitely a time saver, it saves me ~30 mins every month, that I would have wasted doing it manually. Software is downloaded directly from manufacturer's website, so it is great to keep software updated and free from vulnerabilities. I also use it to install software after Windows setup, 20 pieces done in about 2 mins without looking for the latest version, downloading it and clicking on next all the time, it would take more than just a few secs. I run it about once a week along with Driver Easy. I also use Windows Repair Toolbox, it has bunch of utilities required to maintain Windows. For the rest, I use Softpedia's email notifications.

P.S.: It is great, that they allowed people to use it for free, it is mainly used by admins, it is an invaluable tool.

I agree with most, such programs frequently have unneeded baggage and could cause more issues than they 'fix'. And many sites can trick users into Click Here.

I hadn't heard of that program till now. Just tried it.

No installation, can just run as an exe, no services, no unwanted baggage, works very well.

I use it - there's no nagware, no unneeded bloatware, and it keeps all my software up-to-date without having to manually check each app and/or the their respective websites for updates.

Not sure why it's getting all the hate though as it does what it does without any fuss. But if people wanna do it manually, so be it.
