    Boot order

    Hello,

BIOS (legacy type) is supposedly is able to edit the [I]boot order[I] but mine refused to do it, nothing happens. I'd like to put the CD drive in the first place, so my machine would be able to boot from it.

I need it because the created rescue discs configured so.

Any advice how to solve this?
    Thank you

Most BIOSes have a list across the bottom of the screen to show/tell how to move things around such as PageUp or PageDown. The Up and Down arrows shown on your image only moves the highlight of a choice then pressing another key moves that selection where desired, can move the ODD/Optical Disc Drive to the top/first position. Once set then Exit while Saving the settings and it should work. One might also set the display onscreen for 5 or 10 seconds, it's called the P.O.S.T., Power On Self Test.

You highlight the device and use f6 or f7 to move it up or down

Be sure to press F10 after making your boot order change.

    Hello Berton,
I do follow the instruction given on the right ...nothing happens.. The boot order remains the same, items all bright-lighted as seen in the attachment now.

The trouble is I follow the instruction given in the right column, then no change. Every item order remains and bright-lighted.

As I said on your other thread...

... you first need to select a device before you can move it to the top of the list. the up/down arrow keys should allow you to highlight the device you want (ODD is the optical disk drive) then the F6 key should move it up by one position each time you press F6.

If you still can't get that to work the alternative is to press F12 at power up, which should bring up a one-time Boot Menu where you can choose which device to boot from. Use the arrow keys to select a device, then the Enter key to boot from it.

If you cannot edit the boot order then that suggests the bios is locked. Enter the bios and look in the Security section, see if a bios User or Supervisor password has been set.

I would first try changing the boot order with the boot media in the drive. If that doesn't work you may have to set a password in the bios to unlock it. Once you make the change you can delete the password.

The *solution* was at the Advanced tab, click Enter to display the Sub-menu, then the Selection can be made.

So you've been able to change the boot order now? If so, it seems your bios settings work slightly differently fro my Toshiba's bios.

You should still have the boot menu alternative with F12, which you may find useful.
