Correct. I've had it happen to me. Not fun.

The OP was thinking that stopping Chkdsk before it finished could affect his ability to access the BIOS settings. That is highly unlikely.

SOLVED. Thanks to the help of the Forum and it's knowledgeable members, my computer is working again. I cleared the cmos and then tried unsuccessfully to get into the bios, I left it alone for a while, monitor black, thinking nothing would happen. An hour later the screen showed the Windows 10 creation USB drive and I was able to reinstall Windows successfully. I don't know how chkdsk screwed up my system, but I will think very carefull about running it again. Thank you, Len

Had you ran the free hardware tests?

If you were able to > post the results.

If you had not run the hardware tests:

a) Download and install on the computer the HP UEFI diagnostics.
b) Power on the computer and repetitively click F2
c) Run system, extensive, loop until error testing overnight
d) The next day click esc > take pictures and post images into the thread

Yes, once I properly flashed the cmos, it all started working.
