    CHKDSK messed up

I ran chkdsk /r /f /x after installing Windows 10 on an HP desktop. A few hours later the computer was frozen and I had to do a restart by holding the switch for 5 seconds. Now the computer will not boot, or recognize the CD drive or the USB slots. I tried to reinstall Windows on a different hard drive but I can't even get the computer to open the Boot Devices page. when I hold Esc, del F2, F11, or anything, nothing happens.

Hi I would try resetting cmos. remove power from computer and remove coin size battery from motherboard and let it sit for 10 minutes or so and put battery back in and see if can get into bios.

I removed the battery for 20 minutes, then restarted with the W10 creation tool in the USB. It still will not recognize CD or USB drives

Just now went back and tried to boot again. This time it took me to boot devices and it is running okay. I thing the battery trick worked, thanks very much.

I was too hasty with my assessment. It recognized the USB port, but not the hard drive.

I've got to go now, but if you still can't get into the BIOS try unplugging the hard drive's data cable. Then see if you can get into BIOS.
This will try and isolate the problem.
