Free space always eaten restarted then two gigs gone

..I thought this was thing of the past, I'm always going to be next to no space!

I check updates, I nuke restore point as it happens, CCleaner, just, WHY!

I made it to 5 gigs remaining, restarted because Firefox was being overwhelmed again, check my C:\ and boom two gigs less

Samsung SSD 250gig Win10 64-bit any advice would be greatly appreciated =/

For whatever reason, M$ still does not provide disk monitor nothing no log of what the heck is being put on..

Welcome to the forum if it disappears on start it could be swap file or hibernation how much can have you got?

Quite simple, far too small a HDD/SSD on purchase. 256 GB is simply not enough. Even 5 years ago.
Windows and Applications increase in their installed size every year. One of mine is 5x larger in just 3 years (15 GB to currently 80 GB). Virtually every application is at least 2x larger.

I disabled hibernation as no desire to turn off my PC

Oh gorsh! y'mean page file? No wonder! I remember finally doing away with this feature on my last days on Win7 when my new mobo forced me to Win10

I don't know why when I'm always in the red it decides to do it.. as for performance I'm running a AMD Ryzen 3 1300x quadcore and two 8gig RAM sticks.. and I never had the space for it do this so not really experiencing slowdown without it?

All I do is surf, play antique games, I assume I should just disable page file and not look back?

did you check where has your disk space gone?

I'm using Treesize free

To disable hibernation file (and fast startup), type this in admin command prompt:

powercfg -h off

Here are my tips

Run Disk Clean
Run Wise Disk Cleaner
Disable System Restore
Disable hibernation - powercfg -h off in an admin command prompt
Delete any folders in C:\Windows\servicing\LCU
Run maintenance Manually Start or Stop Automatic Maintenance in Windows 10

The Component Store periodically needs to be cleaned, that can reclaim several GBs, depending on the last time cleanup was done.

Preferably in Safe Mode, at an Admin command, run in sequence:

fsutil resource setautoreset true c:\

fsutil usn deletejournal /d /n c:

Dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup

Dism.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

Dism.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup /ResetBase

I nuke restore point as it happens

First you can set the max space allocated to System restore, so it can't take up more space than that. Second, if you never plan on using it, disable it. However, when restoring using one actually works, it can be really useful.

I have 2 PCs with Windows on a 256Gb SSD. I've never had a space problem, and I have LOTS of programs installed.

You need to identify, as said above, what's actually using your space. The tutorial mentioned in post #5 will help.

I did away with page file because I don't stress my hardware and always have the worst luck with primary space ={

Yesterday I TeamViewered my craptop and this desktop for a 4 gig file transfer, from my external HDD. Then 7 of my gigs gradually got aten up now riding under a gig again >.< Did the same again today with FileActivityWatch on and nope did not reproduce

But..

Why!
