Will 8 GB make WIN10 run ok on a Core 2 Duo?

A lot of posts on the net ask whether Win10 can run on old machines. But most of the inquiries seem to come from people with 4 GB or less RAM. Personally I can't use WIN7 with less than 8.

My travel laptop is my slowest machine, a Latitude e4300, Core2 Duo SP9600. (I like it because of the screen size / aspect ratio.) If I upgrade to WIN10, will the 8 GB RAM help ensure that I don't experience a slowdown?

Yes, I'm already using an SSD and hibernating between sessions.

[Currently Windows version 6.1 build 7601]

If it's slow with 8 GB, it isn't likely due to the amount of RAM unless you are an unusual case--work load out of the ordinary.

Win 10 and 7 both run about the same on a given amount of RAM.

I have run Win10 X64 fairly well on an ancient laptop with 4GB of RAM and an Athlon 64 X2 CPU. About as well as Win7 X64.

Switching to a small SSD helped quite a bit.

I'd still be using it, but I replaced it by a laptop with an HDMI port.

8 GB of RAM is more than enough for Windows 10.

My HP dv6 Laptop and how it is working with Windows 10 today.

I have this older HP dv6 you can see below how it is configured, i upgraded it from Windows 7 to Windows 10 when Microsoft offered the free online update.

I have been using it with no problems and have upgraded the OS each time Microsoft has offered it, and have not had and problems with this computer.
    =======

This is my HP laptop system:
    The dv6 offers an
Intel Core i5-2410M Sandy Bridge dual-core CPU, 6GB of DDR3 memory, and a discrete Radeon HD 6490M graphics chip.

My 2006 core 2 duo runs fine with win 10 on 4gb ram. It will normally use around 50% ram with a couple browsers open. The cpu sure works hard though, still gets er done.

    Hi,
Recently updated with media creation tool and used update now on a 2009 model Gateway laptop
Win-7 dual core with only 3gb's of memory

Worked just fine on win-7 of course it was a 32bit os version mostly because that works best for this low end machine it came with 32 bit win-7 maybe Vista.

Now on win-10 home 32 bit still works fine.

    Thanks, everyone for your feedback.

For what it's worth, to celebrate the WIN7 end of service, I did prepare a replacement machine with a clean install of WIN10 - a Latitude e4310 (an i5). I love it, but unfortunately the beat-up old e4300 has more useful screen dimensions. After maxing out the RAM to 8GB, and switching to an SSD and using a hiberfile, I'm getting very decent performance, so for now I think it's safer to stay put with WIN7.

But should I ever feel forced to stop using WIN7, your responses have giving me the confidence to try converting the e4300 to WIN10.

Microsoft lists the Windows 10 minimum hardware requirements as:

    • Processor: 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster processor or SoC.
    • RAM: 1 gigabyte (GB) for 32-bit or 2 GB for 64-bit.
    • Hard disk space: 16 GB for 32-bit OS 20 GB for 64-bit OS.
    • Graphics card: DirectX 9 or later with WDDM 1.0 driver.
    • Display: 800x600

    But I reccomend

    1. processor: 2.5 GHz Dual Core (Faster is better)
    2. RAM :- 4 GB (2018 Atleast 8 GB)
    3. HDD 320GB
    4. GPU :- any (Nvidia Tiatan v is the Best)
    5. Display :- 1920X1080 (Full HD)
