Some entries in the event viewer need to be worked up and fixed.
    Others are for informational purposes.

For Vbox more information is needed.
Are the errors impacting performance, stability / instability, etc.
Do they have a fix for the driver errors?

FYI I haven't had a "hang while sleeping" since 11/30, and that was the first one in about 2 weeks. So it's not completely fixed but it's a lot better.

On Thursday I was using the laptop off power. I finished my work and closed the laptop. Brought it back to my office and powered up, and it had rebooted?? Reliability Monitor just says "Windows was not properly shut down." V2 attached, if you want to look.

    1) I have not submitted a support case for VBox. Major medical issues have kept me busy & not playing with laptop diagnosis.

    2) I've run HWMonitor and other temp tools before. Temps run in the low 50's in normal conditions. They run much higher with torture-test apps but that's not how I use the system. For non-torture use the temps rarely go above 60.

    3) I ran Prime95. Temps climbed pretty quickly to the mid-90's, then (when the fan kicked in) rapidly dropped to the mid-80's and slowly dropped further. It ran for about 30 minutes in the mid-70's. HWMonitor said it was loading all 8 cores at 100%, but Task Manager and Resource Monitor said it was running about 66%. Apparently it throttled the CPU to lower temps.

    4) The idle temp on the GPU was 51-52. I ran the FurMark stress test and over the course of 2-3 mins the temp climbed to 71. That's on the Intel HD Graphics 630 built-in graphics; the Radeon RX Vega M is disabled.

These are some steps that can be performed if not already tested:

    1) Clean boot

    2) Clean install without windows updates (make sure wireless is hardware off and there is no Ethernet connection)
    a) > install no updates and no drivers > check performance for several days
    b) > install only Windows updates > check performance for several days
    c) > install drivers from only the HP website > check performance for several days
    d) > install applications > check performance for several days

    3) restore the Macrium image if there is no change

I'm out of ideas after all of the above steps

The situation seems to be much better than it was. I don't think I can justify spending days to further roil the waters, maybe improving it a bit, maybe making it worse. I think it's time to say it's "good enough" and move on.

Thank you for all your help!

    You're welcome..........anytime.

It's had a checkup and tuneup.

The vbox error remained in the logs.

There are Macrium backup images in case there are any future problems.

Hm. That's... interesting. Last month I reported on a problem where Windows hung, and Reliability Monitor showed a "Hardware error" and a bunch of errors from dwm.exe and Desktop Window Manager. Today it happened again. Last month it happened on 11/29, today is 12/29. Coincidence? Seems unlikely, but... It did NOT happen at the same time.

Last month's V2 is here: Sluggish laptop -- any suggestions?
