Which of course I can't access until I log in. I tried changing my Microsoft password using my phone, and that still didn't work. (Apparently it requires a wired network connection, and my laptop doesn't have one.)
You could always use your phone as a "wired" connection by USB tethering.

Ummm. Interesting idea. I'll keep that in mind if I run into this mess again. Though once I finally found the USB-key solution, it was a very simple fix.

    The logs were unremarkable.
The last BSOD were days ago.

Yes. I've had 6-8 of them over the course of a couple of weeks, but none in the last few days. I probably should have kept a log of when they happened, but I guess you can see that from the V2 report.

Seems to be less of the "hang while asleep" problem recently too, with or without rainbow stripes.

(1 day later) So far no hangs or crashes.

Another possibly-related question: on this HP laptop, Fn-Esc is supposed to display a summary of info about the laptop -- model number, things like that. That worked until sometime in the last few weeks. Now, nothing. Any idea what might have broken it? It stopped working before I uninstalled the AMD drivers, but I think after I did the driver updates at the start of the thread.

I don't see anything in the Support Assistant that finds drivers in need of updating. Am I missing something?

    Nope. Not supported under 1903.

It should already be installed. It used to work. Should I re-install it?

(I'm using the built-in keyboard, BTW.)

Ugh. Again!? I've done that at least 3 times in the last year. And it's never clear which ones to install. E.g. there are multiple versions of several chipset drivers -- none of which say they're supported on 1903.

I'll install the latest ones. Including ones I don't think I ever use, like the Thunderbolt Dock firmware.

On the HP computers that I use fn + esc opens the computer info.

Until that gets fixed (I think it's hot keys) the work around is/are:
    a) launching HP software assistant to view HP info
    b) using administrative command prompt: systeminfo or launching msinfo32 or dxdiag to view general info
