Restart Issue: Needs additional Hard Restart (W10-1903)

    Hi,

I am facing this issue for the last 2 weeks.

When I restart my desktop with Win 10 - 1903, the process gets stuck during the boot at the animated dotted circle. The desktop only boots when I physically restart it 2nd time.

I have an ASUS MoBo so first on a restart it shows the ASUS logo with the animated dotted circle for around 2 mins, followed by the ASUS logo disappearing, and the animated dotted circle again reappearing on its own on a blank black screen endlessly. This new blank screen with the animated dotted circle does not proceed, no matter how long I wait.

However, If I do a manual hard restart again (by pressing the physical reset button), everything goes normal and I am able to get to the login screen.

Essentially, after every restart, I need to manually restart again with the physical reset key - Which is like 2 times restart.

I have Macrium Reflect Paid version. I used it to get into the boot menu and fix the boot through Macrium, but to no use.

    Please help

    Thanks,
    ABX

I'm working on a similar problem Automatic Repair on Boot Keeps Happening

    Try the following
    • Turn off automatic repair so you can see if an error code is posted - Enable or Disable Automatic Repair in Windows 10
    • Run chkdsk /f to check/fix all drives
    • Run sfc / scannow to check / fix system files
    • Check all drivers are up to date
    • Does your motherboard have an alphanumeric boot check display? If so, look up the code where the boot stops
    • In the BIOS, disable fast boot, set CSM to always, set base clock BCLK to 100.1 MHz (your base clock may differ), turn off full screen log to see messages

I'll report back what I find

    Download and install: Everything
Search for srttrail or srttrail.txt > post share links into the thread using one drive, drop box, google drive, or amazon.

There once was an available fix for many of the automatic repair loops.
Microsoft had changed the availability of the repair option.
Now this fix is only available if you plan in advance and manually create a backup of the registry.
    This method is regback.

Please use the Microsoft feedback hub to encourage the return of this automatic registry backup.

Enable Automatic Backup of System Registry when Restart in Windows 10

In another thread an OP had used a backup image and then copy and paste of the config folders/files.
It's unclear whether this was a one time lucky fix or whether it can be done on a reliable basis.

This is an example of the usefulness of srttrail:

    It should be here: C:\Windows\System32\Logfiles\Srt\SrtTrail.txt

I think Srt folder and SrtTrail.txt file only created during startup repair in progress.

One more update: My Windows Boot Loader does not show a "recoveryoption" at all as shown in the Image attached for output of "bcdedit". Could this be the reason?

Have you tried to enable real restart by disabling fast startup?
