Slow File Transfers Windows 10 Pro 1903

Some reason lately experiencing slow file transfers in Windows 10 Pro 1903, 18362.329

    using Intel storage controller

on USB 3.0 driver, sometimes goes as low as 1kb a second, or goes to 0 and stops a few moments, then continues, transferring like either a 4gb files or sometimes my music folder backup which is current 230gbs (all bought with former Microsoft bing rewards gift cards when they had Music on Microsoft store with xbox music and Groove years ago)

    SSD primary drive

secondary drive WD black Serial ata 6

    USB drives mostly 3.0 drives

    Any advice appreciated

is it Defender slowing down file transfers? previous Antivirus was Avast

It does not matter where you got it. With a transfer between a USB device and computer can show that type of buffering. It all depends on the controller in the external USB hub, type of drive in it, the USB controller on your computer, what else is going on, etc.

Oh i see, was a little bit concerned, but transfer rate i guess is normal as best it's gonna be, the External drives are all Western Digital, except 1 Seagate 8tb i won in a Twitter Contest months ago, but otherwise 90 percent Western Digital Externals lol

    1KB/sec is terrible.

Are you transferring to the USB drives? Are you sure you are plugging them into the USB 3 ports on the PC? From what the manual shows, on the front they are the two USB port on the left side. USB 2 are on the right side.

On the back the USB 3 ports site just below the VGA connector.

You may also want to try different flash drives as quality and performance vary widely between manufacturers.

Do you have the latest AsMedia USB 3 driver installed?

Driver wise i check Asus site monthly for any updated Drivers, as well as Windows Update weekly i manually run a check for updates off and on, As well check for any other updates, System was clean installed back when 1903 released.

    USB drivers confirmed at latest

Not many uninstalls or reinstalls since, minus a few times switching between Avast and Defender antivirus trying to see which one i liked the best..

System file checker shows no issues

Drive trim ran on Western Digital SSD 3 days ago, Defrag of storage drive, end of last month

So think probably best transfer rate is gonna be perhaps

Using Western Digital Passport 1TB Drive at the moment

Sometimes the Seagate 8tb in a bought usb 3.0 enclosure

and 2 USB 2.0 externals, WD Elements 500gb connected at times, and a Western Digital 500gb blue drive in a usb 2.0 Masscool enclosure

tries another transfer in a moment with the other drive

Alot better transfer speed than eariler for some reason currently, this is from D:\ system drive to 8tb Seagate drive plugged in rear usb 3 port

Try booting to Safe Mode and repeat the test. What transfer speed do you get then? If it's better then you can use Clean Boot to see if you can isolate which programs/drivers are causing the slowdown.

Will do that test in next few minutes here

    Ok Safe Mode Test

    averaged 1.32mb/s
    Folder size 250gbs

    Regular Mode
    Admin account
    average 32mb/second
to same external plugged into rear ports of PC (rear ports don't work in safe mode for some reason)

Recently switched to Defender for System protection? should i reinstall Avast Free and test again?

Isn't much loading for startup wise, just critical items it looks like, will list those in a moment

About ready to tell myself system best gonna be, and just live with it at this point. Maybe when i purchase my Samsung SSD at Christmas, and do another clean install, maybe will solve all the issues at the time, then pick 1 Antivirus to stick with and not switch so much

Keep in mind this is also my first Intel system since 2003, purchased September 13th 2017, clean installed for Windows 10 versions on each one that released mostly, 1903 back in May or June, and clean installed August 4th 2019 due to my Temporary internet files location missing. So system should be in pretty good shape i'd hope

Think best its gonna be as far as i know, unless i figure out why it slows down, but considering it was slow in Safe Mode with front ports, not sure what else to look for, or do at this point
