    storarge clean up glitch

Have you noticed that after clean up of temporary files is done and back up to the main
storage screen the original value remains the same as the prepurged value .
    Glitch?

No Glitch, more like MS thinking, don't tell a consumer what is really happening by showing that number which appears to be roughly minus the "Windows update Clean-up" part of the Detailed View.

On the Detail View on mine it's about 8 GB, but the initial one that you show it is about 850 MB.

In the Detail View even if you tick a box it will never go below a certain size, presumably some managing files or something, no idea really.

The difference is roughly that "Windows Update Clean-up" which I don't think they want you to do, or some things are kept for certain complex reasons.
I just untick that box as it's trivial on my HDD, and there is the chance you may want to uninstall some update at some point.

Microsoft don't explicitly state it anywhere I can easily find, but the clean up is conservative and by default retains temporary files that are less than a week old. This seems to apply to both Disk Cleanup and cleaning up in Storage settings.

    How-To Geek said:
Temporary Files: Programs frequently store data in a temporary folder. Check this option and Disk Cleanup will delete temporary files that haven’t been modified in over a week.
Is It Safe to Delete Everything in Windows’ Disk Cleanup?

...and the LastAccess registry value that sets the retention time is shown in: Why Doesn’t Disk Cleanup Delete Everything from the Temp Folder?
(that article is talking about Win7, but the same key exists with the same value of 7 days in Win10)

CCleaner on the other hand will by default delete all temporary files, but has an 'advanced option' to retain any that are less than 24 hours old.

How much do you have in your Downloads folder? As far as MS are concerned, downloads are regarded as 'temporary' and Storage will include it in the total for 'Temporary files'.

'Temporary files' is a broad category that covers many things, clicking on it in Storage give a breakdown by category of temporary file.

One of those categories is 'Temporary internet files'. Is that where the apparent 4.81GB are to be found? If so, there is a long-standing bug that sometimes makes the reported size of temporary internet files grow. Note that this seems to be a misreporting, not actual files that are taking up space,

It is perhaps easier to see this in Disk Clean up (both that and Storage use the same underlying mechanisms to report sizes and clean up files).

Disk Clean up seems to have a bug that makes it miscalculate and say there are temporary internet files left when in fact there are none. This error gets larger with time. There is a workaround to reset Disk Clean up's calculations to zero, but it will slowly accumulate more 'phantom' files (mine shows 75MB at the moment). I've given up bothering to reset it, they don't seem to be really there else CCleaner would be able to find and remove them. To set it back to zero, see this thread.

This is what I did today. I am not going to mark it as Solved until I test it more. I have mark this issue as solved; however this is more of a workaround than a solution...

This could be caused by Windows reporting the uncompressed size of certain files which it compresses and keeps for a certain time (depends on what the files are, defender updates, app updates, system updates etc), then when files are naturally deleted by Windows over time the value will change, so you may not see a change immediately but when you check several hours/ days later the value is updated.
I think the storage clean up could have better descriptions because at the moment it looks like all files depicted will be deleted as soon as you press the button, but in reality deletion will occur over time.
