How to free up space on computer?

    Dell xps 15 9550.

250gb ssd samsung. Have about 30gb free of 232gb.

    i5-6300hq and 8gb ram

    Windows 10 pro

I moved some music files from my c drive to my 32gb m.2 ssd that is in my laptop. It currently has 2 hard drives there. That and my main 250gb ssd samsung 2.5 inch.

I went to chrome and clear my entire cache history... and i think it freed up 0.5gb.

Should i remove my entire cookies history? If so, that should free up a lot of space?

Also can i disk optimize? Also i heard that you should never drag an ssd. I have previously defragged this ssd many times a while back ago when i used this ssd in another laptop. But i no longer do this. So do not defrag the ssd right?

What other options are there for me to free up space? The thing is almost all my programs i use such as in my desktop etc... well i use. So i can't remove programs like itunes etc.

I heard of programs like ccleaner. I used it previously in old laptops. But it is good and safe to use?

Most importantly, always download the program from the official site and not hippo.com or sites like that right?

Is it possible i could free up as much as 30gb or even more?

Your space would be taken up by stuff like your media files, etc. You can see a breakdown with a tool like TreeSize. Majorgeeks is a trusted source if you are looking at tools, but what you are trying to clean up is going to be very little. It is like trying to get your car to run faster, but you are only cleaning the dust and bugs off of the paint.

Hi there. When you say media files, what you mean specifically? I did move all my music to my 32gb m.2 ssd to free up some space, that was less than 6gb total.

So you are saying, there is no way i would clear up say at least 10gb? I ask this because im wondering what in the world is taking up so much gb on my computer.

You have more files on your computer that are taking up space. Use TreeSize as I mentioned before to allow you to visually see what is taking up space and where.

I googled treesize. I see lot of things mentioning it not safe and has malware. This is incorrect right?

I always make sure what i download on computer is safe and legit.

Treesize is not malware. You can download it and other tools from majorgeeks.com. No searches in Google shows that it is malware, since it has been used since 1996 and has been a legitimate program.

Thanks. Any other programs you suggest for clearing up space?

Any other similar programs like treesize?

No, since you need to actually use TreeSize to see what directories and files are taking up the most space.

This is a tutorial on freeing up space:

Free Up Drive Space in Windows 10

Many of us use Ccleaner for cleaning windows and applications.
Over time there can be unexpected problems if used on the registry so this cleaning is discouraged.

It's always best to make backup images.
