Open Shell made my original Start Menu disappear/no longer working.

Today I suddenly found that even if I shift click on Start Menu button in my Win10-64bit, no start menu opens. And if I click without shift key, then Open Shell menu opens.

So to regain the Win10 default start menu, I uninstalled the Open Shell.
But now, not only the start menu doesn't appear, but some of my apps are behaving very abnormally. E.g. Firefox browser opens only in any one corner of the display.
No desktop icons are being shown.
Taskbar right click doesn't work anywhere.

    Etc etc.

    Can anyone pls help?

I rather doubt it's an effect due to Open Shell. Plenty of people here use it and have installed and updated it. However, all things are possible.

Please create a new user for test purposes and try Win 10's start menu and check other symptoms you've reported when logged in as that user.

Why? This will discriminate between a user profile problem and a general Windows problem.

Once that is known, a possible next step can be taken.

What is your Window build? Sadly this site does not require it, so (yawn) we have to keep asking for it. Thanks.

Same here. The OP probably has set to none. I stopped using third party skinning apps for the Start Menu. None of those apps have been able to keep up and the Start menu is just getting easier to navigate.

er.. Open Shell isn't a skinning program- it's entirely separate from the built in Start Menu.. but yes, it itself has skins.

With that installed you can still launch Win 10's start menu- which I can't use by itself as Win 10-style menus fail badly with (flatten) start menu structures with more deeply nested folders, extracting the shortcuts and presenting them in a linear list.
    Think e.g.
    Help
    Help
    Help
    Help

where each Help is from a different program shortcut folder.

    Thanks very much.
Sorry to mention that I've already tried creating a new profile, but in that/there also, Windows 10's own start menu doesn't work at all. Even Cortana search and taskbar tray buttons didn't work (e.g. clicking volume icon did nothing). All this happened when I uninstalled Open Shell.
Now only open shell start menu works (if I install it) and Win10's own start menu and search and taskbar wifi and volume buttons don't work at all.

I've tried some solutions given on google.
    1. Ran Sfc /scannow. It resulted all ok. But no solution.
    2. Then Ran some long Power Shell commands (approx 2-3 commands, which didn't do any good or bad) told in diff help articles.
    3. Created a new fresh admin profile.
    4. Tried installing and uninstalling Open Shell a few times.
    5. Installed an Update referred somewhere for this type of problem. Took nearly 30 minutes, but didn't solve.

In the end, in frustation, I tried repairing window and after 4 hours, had to install the windows afresh.

But, since I can't do without Open Shell's old type of Start menu, I'm afraid, I'll be confronted with same problem in the coming days.

So, can someone suggest something pls?

Open Shell lets you bypass its own settings/menu by Shift+clicking on Start button (i.e. shift clicking produces win10's orig menu).

I can't agree. Win10's default Start menu just doesn't supports.
To open control panel items, I've to click or drag some 4 times. But with old start menu/open shell, I just hover over start menu and then over control panel and click on my desired item.
Also when I want to open some application, in new menu, I've to click and drag to see that app.
While in Win7/Open Shell start menu, all my fav apps are in front of me as soon as the menu opens.

Moreover, all my desired items are expanded in sub menus in old menu. there by helping me open any item/app/file/folder in my whole computer, with just 1 click (start menu opens by just hovering over it); which I can't imagine in new style menu.

It's unfortunate you decided to do a clean install. An in-place upgrade repair install which keeps all progs and data would most likely have solved your problem, and would have been my next suggestion if I'd known it happened with a new user profile.

I've not seen any other report of Open shell having such an effect. You could try the old Classic Shell if you wish, I suppose.

Now that your PC is stable, please create a base disk image using e.g. Macrium reflect (free) + external storage for image files, and maintain your disk images routinely.

Once you have a disk image, in many cases, esp. when things suddenly go wrong, you can restore a disk image without needing to seek or wait for technical help.

This is recommended time and again here.

    Thanks for your wonderful replies.

But, no repairing windows never worked. So nor did it work today.

So, after spending many hours on repairing or updating, I had to do clean install from the beginning.

But very sorry, that after all my needed wares were successfully installed, the same scene erupted. Win10's own start menu stopped working and along with it, clicking on any icon in the taskbar tray, like volume icon, network icon, all stopped working. One can't do without these.

    Pls Pls suggest something.
As far as I can guess, it has something to do either with NVidia display drivers. Or installation of these 2-3 wares: Adobe Master collection CC2017 or Movavi or Soundforge. Because before I installed these, it was working ok.
And also, when it stopped working, I found that my display behaved oddly, froze or something like that.

Sorry to hear that. In post #1 you said:
Today I suddenly found that even
Do you know what happened immediately before 'Today'?

As part of your new installation procedure, did you ever, following advice above, start a sequence of creating a new set of disk images?

I would suggest that something you are installing or configuring is causing you problems.

Here in detail is how to deal with this sort of thing.

    a. Check your disk- make sure this is sound.
E.g. HD Tune (free) - health and error scan tabs.
Hard Disk Sentinel (trial) - includes SSDs - best immediate report I've seen

    b. Clean install Windows, set up your user.
    c. Install Macrium reflect (or similar) and create a base disk image on an external drive.
    d. Start installing programs, configuring your system. Keep a simple record of changes as you go.
    e. Update your disk image (differential image).
    f. Install further programs etc, keeping notes
    g. Repeat (e), (f) until complete.

If you notice something goes wrong you can restore the appropriate disk image, and you have a record of repeatable changes. You can then determine (hopefully) at exactly what point something goes wrong and you don't have to clean install again, saving much time and effort.

    Another possibility
Your laptop may not be compatible with Win 10 beyond a certain build.
What was the last Win 10 build that worked for you?
You can get older isos if you search for
    Heidoc iso downloader
    and use that.

Dell Latitude e6420 appears to have come with Win 7.
You can check Dell's tests here:
    https://www.dell.com/support/article...ows-10?lang=en

Also make sure your BIOS is fully up to date.
    https://www.dell.com/support/home/uk...e6420/drivers#
    one is listed for 2018.
Drivers are listed to Win 8.
