    SFC /scannow - Defender corruption?

A run today of sfc /scannow reported errors, with this message:.

"Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them.
For online repairs, details are included in the CBS log file located at
    windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log."

CBS.log was largely unreadable but after research I found that this command

    findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\Logs\CBS\CBS.log >"%userprofile%\Desktop\sfcdetails.txt"

    delivered a readable file.

There were thousands of apparently successful lines (I've left a few in at the top) but here are its last 46. They all seem to implicate Defender

Can anyone help me to interpret this and proceed to fix please?

This is a recent and common problem with Windows Defender antimalware.
Just do the following in order from administrator command prompt to fix it :-
    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

    restart PC

sfc /scannow (errors will be found and fixed )
    and finally ,
sfc /scannow (windows resource protection will find no integrity violations)
That's all you have to do.
The problem is every time Windows Update pushes through an antimalware update the issue will return.
All you have to do is repeat the commands again to repair.
The alternative is to leave it alone. According to Microsoft it isn't doing any harm. Its up to you whether or not you want to keep cleaning it up with the above method. Ive just repaired it again for the second time on my PC

Thanks a bunch, that seems to have fixed it! The latest sfc /scannow run reported that it had found error and repaired them.

No problem mate. Yeah that is exactly what should have happened. Dism will have repaired the image so that System File Checker could do its work and fix the issue. Glad I could help

I'm glad it is fixed. In preparation for your next use of SFC, note the commands for extracting SFC results from the CBS.log to help you focus on the important points - look under the heading Extracting SFC results from the CBS.log in

There is no rush. I'd say it will be at least a week before another faulty update to Windows defender is issued.

A week...Have we got that long Denis? lol
Its a nuisance and something we shouldn't have to sort out. it looks like we're going to have to wait until Windows 10 version 1909 at the earliest for there to be any hope that Microsoft have fixed the issue
