Newly bought laptop performance is slow

Not sure if this is the right place to ask this, but here goes. My newly bought (4 days old) laptop (Lenovo Y530) is surprisingly slow. I'm not sure why, but opening, searching, and whatever task I do takes longer. I also noticed that my disk usage is constantly high (50%~). I assume that's the problem?

    The specs are as follow:

    i5-8300H
    GTX 1050
    8GB RAM
    1TB HDD

I'm not sure if adding an SSD would solve it, but shouldn't it be this slow?

I see online info that it may have a 5400 rpm drive and some say 7200 rpm. I even saw info that some models of the Y530 have an SSD.

Regardless, you need to find out what the hard drive is doing when the laptop is "slow" as it may well be the weak link.

And who knows what applications are automatically running all the time on a new laptop.

Some stuff flagged by Malwarebytes on a Lenovo laptop:

MALWAREBYTES ADWCLEANER v7.4 Pre Installed Lenovo Software Question

8 GB of RAM isn't likely to be an issue and the CPU is pretty stout.

I have the 5400 rpm drive. Is this the cause of the issue? Should I do a clean install of the OS to see if it persists. The battery is draining fast too, and I suspect it's because of the drive.

I'm planning on getting an SSD soon, but idk if hard drives are this slow as my PC has also a 1TB hdd and doesn't have this problem, it's 6 years old.

There is no 'problem' or anything wrong at all.

You have to wait until all updates are done as they will have supplied it with an earlier version of Windows 10.
It is simply a matter of waiting until all those updates have been done, 4 days is just not long enough for that.
There is nothing wrong with those specs or the 1 TB HDD.

Also you need to delve into Windows 10 settings, configure stuff, about 100 need looking at, and also you may need to uninstall some trial version Applications, possibly some bloatware.

My laptop with a 5,400 rpm standard 1 TB HDD boots in 25 secs, once all that updating, configuration, pre-fetch has been done in due course, every application opens very swiftly.

To see what is going on just means opening the Task Manager for a delve around it then become rather obvious. Usually resulting in going back to Windows settings for more configuration.

Educational for the next 6 monthly version update...

I've fully updated Windows 10, have checked windows update and it stated I'm up to date. I've checked the Task Manager and yes, there's a lot of processes happening, but I really don't know which is which.

Okay, so I've downloaded Driver Easy to check if there are updates, and there are a lot. I've seen 29 updates are available, but idk how to update them (I don't really know how to use Driver Easy, especially the free version). Idk if Driver Easy is legit tho

Why bother with Driver Easy? Windows Update is going to be feeding you stuff periodically regardless.

Windows has a lot of "housekeeping" to do in the first days of use on a new machine.

Let the thing calm down for a week or 2 and then re-evaluate via Task Manager. I'd guess you've got a lot of software provided by the manufacturer that you may not ultimately need, so you might consider turning that stuff off or a clean install----at some later date. But I wouldn't come to any conclusions yet.

How many items are shown in the startup tab of Task Manager? How much of that has to be running 24/7?

A lot. Like a lot of processes are shown. Not sure which is needed and which is not, all of these are jargon to me. That's why I can't determine what is causing the issue.

Not sure if it worked, but I changed the power setting to High Performance from Balanced. Also disabled ScheduledDefrag. It's been going on from 0% to around 15% disk usage.

Post a screen shot of that tab if possible.

The machine should start and run well with all of that stuff turned off.

As an experiment, you could disable all of them except anti-virus and reboot and then use the laptop normally and see if if there is anything you want to do that you can't do. Many of those startup items will run on demand and don't need to run 24/7, so there is some trial and error involved.

I wouldn't turn defrag off. Let it get the drive defragged completely once and then go along with the default schedule to keep it reasonably defragged.

I've recorded a GIF of scrolling down the processes tab in the Task Manager. Here's the link:
