New faster memory but bios uses old XMP settings from pulled memory

I bought some new faster memory for my Asus Maximus VI Hero. When I pulled out the old memory and inserted the new memory, the bios still showed the settings from the old memory. I have XMP enabled and the bios does show the correct description in the profile of the new memory but it does not change anything. Luckily this new memory has no problem working with the XMP settings of my old memory.

I know I can get into the DRAM settings and manually set the timings and voltage to the new ram, but I should not have to do that. Maybe I should see what happens if I load the optimized defaults...

there could be a few things, I know many guides suggest users to input their ram timings manually, maybe you did that when first built system.
What you could do is save the profile of bios then reset it, I bet that will bring the ram to match timing ok in XMP.
Anyway, it is a good idea to manually edit them, after you make sure the system is stable.

Post to the old and new memory
Some of same memory chips like sk hynix/ samsung/.. of the same C16/... do use the same basic timings

You might need to clear cmos to clear any old memory stuff probably the easiest way to get rid of any old memory stuff.
Or just refresh bios

To save any custom oc settings go to your saved profiles and scroll down you'll see save to usb
With a fat32 format flash drive just use the keys to save a txt file to it
Ctrl+F2 on mine.

Then fresh bios.

Does your computer support new memory bandwidth.

I went through the bios and wrote down all the changes I had made over the years and then loaded the optimized results. The bios settings changed for the new memory and after I changed back all the non-memory related settings, I saved the bios and re-booted. The new memory is now working at the rated speed. So far, I don't notice any performance difference.

If your on Intel platform that is to be expected unless there is a large change in speed/freq.

What was the original speed verse new sticks?

The speed did change from 1866 MHz to 2400 MHz but the timings went from 9 10 9 27 2T to 11 13 13 31 2T so maybe that is why I don't feel much of a difference. I did double my memory and I will take advantage to that with a ram disk and my video card can now use up to 16GB of shared memory.

Ok, If you run BM it will show increase BW, but depending on the real app, some favor tight timings and other pure BW.
Day to day apps probably shows a minimal increase. It's like if you got SATA SSD and go to Nvme, even though you see a big increase in BM results, day to day loading of apps about the same.
