    It depends on your settings.
If you have it set to only Sleep, then it'll resume only if there's power to the PC
    - if it's a Desktop - it won't resume
    - if it's a Laptop - then it will resume as long as the big battery has enough charge to maintain the Sleep state

OTOH - if you have it set to Hybrid Sleeep, the system will Hibernate from Sleep after the designated time.
So, if you remove power before it Hibernates, then it won't resume
If you remove power after it hibernates, then it will resume

Sleep Mode power off all hardware (CPU, GPU, disks, Fans etc). Only memory is kept on with all data on it.
When you awake, it turn on the CPU, GPU, disks, Fans etc and it resumes from the point it was before sleeping.
In this state if you unplug the power supply, it loses what is on memory and it has to reboot (load the OS as a normal cold boot does).

Hibernation saves all memory data to the disk (hiberfil.sys file) and the computer is shut ed down.
When you turn it on, instead of a normal boot, it reads hiberfil.sys file from the disk and loads it into memory and it resumes from the point it was before hibernate. It is faster then a cold boot.
After it saves data to the disk (hiberfil.sys file) and shuts down, you can unplug the power supply and nothing will be lost as it is saved to the disk.

Windows 10 has a Sleep+Hibernation mode. When prior entering sleep mode it saves memory to the hiberfil.sys file.
If power is maintained it wakes from sleep. In the case it loses power (loses data on memory), it boots as hibernation mode.

I assume you are referring to a laptop. In this case Power unplug doesnt matter as long as the main battery has power left in it [it does drain very slowly during sleep so cannot last forever - 100 hours is not unusual].

If the laptop is asleep, you do not boot pc again when you press the power button. Pressing the power button when the computer is asleep or hibernating just wakes it from sleep / hibernation.

The references to hibernation & "after the designated time" in another reply refer specifically to using Task scheduler to wake the computer. You do not need AC power to be connected to a laptop to resume from hibernation using the power button.

Please confirm that you are referring to a laptop and explain what you are trying to do {and any problems you are having} so that replies can be more useful for you.

use a program such as HWINFO or Speccy to determine the name brand & model of the computer being used
