You say there's no need to run regular SFC scans. The only reason I found this Windows Defender Platform corruption though was because I ran an sfc scan. There will be thousands of people unaware of the problem.
Are you thinking that Microsoft will fix the issue itself with another windows update at some point anyway ?
I used
sfc (found errors that couldn't be fixed)
dism (repaired successfully)
sfc (errors found but fixed by sfc)
and finally ,
sfc (windows resource protection found no integrity violations)
So everything was then fixed.
Should I just have left the errors alone and waited for a Microsoft fix?

MS have acknowledged the issue and advise just ignoring it. Looks like they will fix it in "future releases of Windows".

I would probably never have known about this issue either. I ran sfc /scannow to try and find out why my up-to-date with everything zbook 15v was not being offered 1903,or even the MS notification that it's on it's way but my machine isn't ready. I've since run the DISM fix + 2 SFCs which now return no integrity violations on all 4 laptops running WD.

(Side note - I am STILL not being offered 1903 or a notification that my machine isn't ready, which is very odd... Getting all 1809 updates and everything OK though).

I already follow both of those posts you linked to in your comment in the above thread. None of the issues stated in updated list of known issues that might be preventing me from receiving it, seem to apply to my 12 month old machine. Windows Update troubleshooter reports no errors, and I'm getting everything I should be for 1809 both automatically and manually checking WU - just not the feature update/notification that my machine isn't ready. I've been right through my device manager and checked everything for updated drivers. My advanced settings in WU are SAC(T), and 0 + 0 for deferring. I've have tons of disk space and RAM. It's a mystery! I won't hijack this thread with the issue though. I'm happy with 1809 for now but if I continue to not be offered it in coming months I will start a thread about it in the correct subforum (or comment on a thread that's more appropriate than this :P).

I always run sfc /scannow after every monthly update to check if MS have screwed up just like they did last week. I fail to understand why MS don't bother to run the same check themselves on a few sample PCs.

I have been running regular sfc scans too. The reason I run them is if Im about to create a system restore point. My thinking is that its pointless creating a restore point if the PC has any issues..sfc will at least check that all the system files are in order. I may be doing sfc scans more than I need to really. I was speaking to Brink yesterday and he said that SFC scans are only necessary if you suspect a problem. Its just a habit Ive got into over the years..maybe a bad one I don't know lol
