Win10 Update 1903 - WMI causing High CPU Values

    Win10 Update 1903 - WMI causing High CPU Values-win10x64-wmi-high-cpu.jpg

I had to update to 1903 as a requirement to install the Xbox Game Pass app (Xbox (Beta)). Ever since I've noticed the CPU is constantly taxed. WMI being the culprit.

Restarting the service does nothing. You cannot (at least I) stop and start this service as it has dependencies that prevent this as well. IpHelper & Intel Rapid Storage (maybe more). I'm given the message "access denied" when attempting to shutdown IpHelper.

I think this is an issue created and will have to be fixed by Microsoft. Unless anyone has any suggestions or fixes?

Do a restart because by default the shutdown keeps drivers and other recently opened stuff in page or hibernation file and can cause issues, then open feedback hub, enable the option to record issue and mark it as high priority issue, open taskmanager and find the WMI issue, stop recording and then send feedback.

    Afterwards try this:

    1. Update all Store (sometimes selecting to search finds newer ones) and also update all normal programs, do a restart.

    2. Update all drivers, do a restart.

Sometimes going to device manager and selecting to search for updates finds newer ones, no clue why not always given automatically through normal update even if have enabled to update drivers even on metered connection and to include other important product updates through Windows update.

    3. Read and try other steps in this link if previous ones didn't help:

I've tried what was listed in the article from "Driver Easy", none alleviated the issue. I have had the most recent updates for all my hardware for years now. It's a Asus Hero VII and they stopped making drivers years back. BIOS is updated to the current stable version (not beta). Installing the program Driver Easy creates more problems than fixes. I had to uninstall it and manually allocate drivers to a family members laptop to get it work correctly (I don't recommend it).

    I updated all Store apps.

Still no change. I am almost certain this is a Win10 update 1903 issue. I had no issues prior to this update.

Update. I found a better article I would suggest to others that helped in finding the issue and then resolving.

Fix WMI provider Host High CPU usage issue in Windows 10

I skipped the safe boot portion. I had tried it before running the maintenance diagnostic, no results.
What I do suggest is paying attention to the event viewer portion errors. These should point you to the program(s) causing WMI to work overtime.

In my case it was the "Razer Service Manager" service (Synapse 3 beta). Now to be clear, this service was NOT causing an issue pre-patch 1903. To resolve, I removed the program, cleaned with ccleaner. Installed post patch update for 1903 (Win Update). Restarted, installed Razer Synapse 3 beta this time with ONLY the "macro" and main program leaving out the color changing studio suite.

Issue is basically resolved, CPU is not taxed all the time but still does hit 100% more often than it should.
