    Shutdown Query

When I left click windows icon, left click the power icon and select 'shut down' the machine goes through the process of shutting down. After it has been off for 5 minutes, I press the power button on the side of the monitor to start it up. I wait another 5 minutes to give windows sufficient time to load everything. I run reliability history or event viewer, either one, and it shows a critical event. Windows was not shut down properly. Windows closed unexpectedly. What causes such a reply? How do you shut down windows properly?

I can't be for sure. I normally leave my pc on and just put it to sleep for the night. But if I had to guess, I would say yes it was happening before 1903. I wasn't having any major problems with my pc, so I never checked.

"After it has been off for 5 minutes, I press the power button on the side of the monitor to start it up."
--- Why is the monitors power button being used to start the computer?

"I wait another 5 minutes to give windows sufficient time to load everything."
--- Is sufficient time needed to load everything because you have many start-up items or because it just takes that long for only a couple of normal start-up items?

Well, my pc is a Dell desktop where the whole pc is inside the desktop/monitor, All-in-one unit. The on/off button is located on the bottom right side.

And yes computers are pretty fast today. I think 5 minutes is sufficient.

Anyway regarding the event error, I inserted a dword into the register that auto ends tasks at shutdown. Haven't seen a pop up error since.
