RAM Memory half being used by system/unknown application -Windows 10

    Hello,

I need some help/solution for this!
My problem is the next... I used to Windows 7 and it run well until It got infected so I formated it to Windows 10 (on Feb) and it run like you will expect from a recent formated PC, then I noticed it was almost using 50% of the ram... in Windows 7 it used to just use 300-500MB maximum 1 GB. So it's really weird, I didn't give it attention and continued my life, until now... My PC is sometimes struggling to open some programs and the ram is going up to 80% of 4 GB, I know Windows 10 eats a lot of memory in a lot of cases but this is incredible, I checked Task Manager and some Process explorer (I also tried sysinternals one) and none of them showed something "unusual" everything was ok, I used calculator to make sure every process was consuming what it says "80% of 4 GB Ram" but it wasn't... it was just 1 GB of ram being used.

When I'm playing some low spec games because my PC is crap, some of them started to get lag spikes, which is really annoying.

I would like some help I can give you any information!

    Thanks,
    MasterBlaze

You use Chrome, that loads at startup, spy everything you do (online and offline) and is using about 1G of memory.
Try to disable it on startup (set on MSconfig) or uninstall it and use other good browser, like Firefox.

"RAM Memory half being used by system/unknown application -Windows 10"
--- It appears to me you have resource problems and the memory is being starved from running efficiently.
On the unknown application, I'd review Megahertz post #2.

Moving on run winver and let us know the Windows 10 Home OS you are using.
--- Also are you running a 32-bit OS?

On your HDD, is it 5400 RPM or 7200 RPM. I don't like to assume anything, but maybe an SSD?

Run disk cleanup, personally I use Free up space now on Windows 10: you might see some heavy hitters that should be cleaned out.

I would also go to Control panel > System > Advanced System Settings > Performance, click on Settings > Set the visual effects to Adjust for best performance.

You don't have enough RAM, increase that to 8 GB at least, or even 16 GB.

    The reasons are:
    1) iGPU which shares the main RAM, not sure of that processor but it maybe up to 1.7 GB, obviously this will tend happen running games.

    2) Windows 10 at idle uses around 2 GB.

    3) Configuring Windows 10 and every application.

Steam game client - You need to configure that to have less running in the background, go to the settings.
Chrome Web Browser - Same thing.

Nothing else appears to be wrong with a brief glance, just a matter of a few hardware and settings/configuration basics. Defender was running a scan when you took those shots.

Hi, the reason why I use Chrome is because it takes less ram memory... yeah I know it's ironic, but it actually takes a lot less memory... I tried Opera, Firefox, Brave, Vivadi, etc and all of them used around 800 MB - 1.5 GB of memory.

    I use "Windows 10 Version 1809 (17763.529)"
I don't know how fast my drive is, but it's not a SSD. It's a HDD.

About Visuals and Effects, it's not a problem... nothing changed.

Windows 10 doesn't use 2 GB... like wtf xD

There isn't any process that runs in startup just Lighshot and Windows Defender.

Your "Windows 10 Version 1809 (17763.529)" is fine.

I agree with Helmut: "You don't have enough RAM, increase that to 8 GB at least, or even 16 GB."
--- You should be able to continue using Chrome if you do that.

It would be good to know if your HDD is only 5400 RPM. I am not a fan of a 5400 RPM HDD.
--- You could remove it to find out.
However that can be determined if you run Belarc.
--- Go to Belarc - System Management For The Internet Age. Software license management, IT asset management, Cyber Security. and run it.
--- Scroll down to the Drives section
Mine reports "ST1000DM010-2EP102 [Hard drive] (1000.20 GB) -- drive 0, s/n Z9ABML26, rev CC43, SMART Status: Healthy" and it is 7200 RPM.
--- Use the information in your Belarc report to look up the specs for your installed HDD and it will include the RPM.
--- It cost me only $51.00 to purchase my 1 TB HDD.

I have been on Windows 8 and 10 for around 6 years now...

The facts remain, you don't have enough RAM. This is really basic stuff, and if you don't understand then I'm out of here.

Crystal Disk Info will tell all about your HDD specs: CrystalDiskInfo8_1_0 It's a portable (don't need to install)

Is your Win 10 64 or 32 bits?

Percentage of RAM used is not important because it depends on amount of installed physical RAM. Things to worry about is amount tied up with hardware and memory leaks caused by faulty drivers or software.
Windows itself will use same amount of RAM no matter what percentage is and so will any application/program/game running. The trick is to have as small number of resident and startup programs as possible. Windows will endeavor to keep as much free memory as possible by swapping to disk by page/swap file and compacting memory not in immediate use.
