    Very slow response for mouse clicks & movements & keystrokes


    I have extremely slow response times for mouse movements & clicks, and for keystrokes. Typical delays after a movement, click or keystroke are usually in the 5-15 second range. This is clearly frustrating and unworkable.

    This occurs in almost any application.

    I am now running Win 10 19H1 May 2019 update, but the problem first arose before the update. I thought the update would resolve, but no.

    Also have tried:

    Removing or disabling add-ins for Outlook (Office 365).
    Multiple scans with Windows Defender, MalwareBytes (free), SpyBot, SuperAntiSpyware. No threats found in any of these scanners.
    Multiple scans with CCleaner.
    Something is obviously stealing processor cycles, but I don't know how to further diagnose the problem. I'm out of ideas, other than just formating the C drive and doing a clean install of 19H1 via the Media Creation Tool.
    I'd be grateful for any other ideas to resolve short of a clean install.

    Did you open task manager and see what's eating the cpu? It will tell what app or service is stealing cycles.

    I have looked at Task Manager, and don't see any high numbers.

    I should add some information. I usually see this clunky behavior when I'm remoting in to the desktop PC from a laptop. I use TeamViewer V14 as the remote control software. Both the laptop and desktop exhibit this behavior when I'm connected via TeamViewer. However, on both PCs, when TeamViewer is not running, the clunky behavior is not evident. This seems to raise a red flag, no? I will investigate on the TV website.

    Just for comparison have you tried remoting in using the Remote Desktop Connection (RDP) built into Windows 10 editions at Pro or higher? This will let you know if the issue is related to TeamViewer in particular, or remoting in general.

    New Developments


    I checked on the Teamviewer support page, and there was some talk about being able to disable hardware acceleration in previous versions of Windows to resolve the problem. But Win10 doesn't have this option.

    I went to the Intel HD Graphics page and downloaded Intel's driver detection/upgrade utility. While Windows said that I had the most current version of the vid driver, the Intel util did install a different driver.

    After installing the new driver, I restarted the PCs, both local and remote, but didn't see any immediate improvement. But within a day or two, both PCs installed Windows Updates. The problem seems to have abated.

    So, I don't know what actually effected the improvement, the driver update or Windows Update, but I'll take it.

    Bizarre! Glad you got things sorted. I *HATE* it when you can't isolate (and understand) fixes. But that's Windows for you, sometimes . . .

    I HATE it too, Ed, but I'm also not into spending lots of time trying to figure out why something went wrong. At some point (usually about 30-60 minutes into diagnosis), I just do a clean install and that usually puts ALL problems behind me.

    I was this close (::) to just formatting the C: drive and doing a clean install of Win10 1903. It may still come to that, but at least my system is now stable and the frequent 5-15 second freeze-ups are gone for now.

    @KenY7744: You hit the nail on the head. If something takes longer than 30 minutes to fix, I start getting antsy. When I hit the 1-hour mark, I'm ready for an In-Place Upgrade Repair Install if I think it will help the issue (works nicely for software stuff, but doesn't help much with device or driver related issues).

    I have seen this while windows update was downloading / installing updates. Try to "disable" WU.
    As TeamViewer is based on internet connection, what download and upload speed you have?

    I saw some reports saying freezes could be a Link power management issue.

    Add AHCI Link Power Management to Power Options in Windows

    Using HP power plan I think it should be active, anyway, you can check it.
