    "Uninvited Guests"

Hello,After the upgrade to 1803 version, most of the time I am disconnected from the internet, excluding updating defender.I do not know who owns the computer, me or ms. Each time there are misteriously uninvited coming new items in the menu, I did not update nor installed anything.I cannot remove them. Searched the internet and saw I am not alone. My first question to you, How to stop this behavior.Next time, when I find something new in the menu, I will send to you a screenshot. In "task manager" services I Disabled Windows update,There is some other "Windows update Medic Service" I cannot disable it, just stop it. First thing, help how to "close the door" in ms's face.Answers will be appreciated.Thanks.Motim

    Hi Motim.

Sounds like you have two issues, one your network connection is flakey and two, updates. I leave the menu item alone until you post a screen shot. Windows doesn't normally add features when it is not a feature update.

As to your network you didn't say is this wired or wireless.

I would start by disabling the computers ability to power down your adapter to save power. Done in Device Manager, properties fro adapter.

Then try disabling driver updates, option 4 this tutorial. I saw you disable Windows updates, not needing to understand what you did, lets just run registry mod to disable driver updates.

Enable or Disable Driver Updates in Windows Update in Windows 10

Then I would get network driver from your supplier and install it. Confirm version numbers in device manager so you know it took.

See how that goes. Next I would try disabling IPv6.

I will be honest, not sure. One icon is Edge and the Other is Mixed Reality Portal.

I will throw out that is an error, an incomplete something.

You say you are on 1803. I would recommend an inplace repair with 1803 boot media.

If you don't have you can get here.

Microsoft Windows and Office ISO Download Tool

Are you doing anything in the way of defeating telemetry, privacy and or updates. I saw you disabled Windows Updates and I'm not sure how you did this but it is very likely linked to this issue. Maybe it is that mid point between Store and OS.

I know a lot of people believe they should defeat Windows updates and that is your right. That said unless you have some very specialized software this practice, in my opinion, leads to issues.

If you want to delay Feature Updates until they are ready for the Business world I would upgrade your edition to Pro and they tell Windows to defer. You can use the MCT tool to get the Feature updates and then install them at a your choosing, say nine months after release.

Anyway it is your machine and you say how it is to be used and updated.

At a minimum I would run steps 1-5 of this tutorial to see what it finds and repairs.

Use DISM to Repair Windows 10 Image

Use DISM to Repair Windows 10 Image
Hello,Thanks for the answer. Here is a short historyownload Win 10 1803 iso file as in this tutorial: "https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/9230-download-windows-10-iso-file.html#option3" only used "Chrome" browser. File downloaded "Win10_1803_English_x64.Iso" size 4,582.388 KB.

This file was used to upgrade as in the following tutorial:"https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/16397-repair-install-windows-10-place-upgrade.html"
    Option 4.
Downloaded from MS update catalog updates for 1803 version starting 4-May-2019. Searched the internet about each one before installing it.

After all this done, made a Macrium full backup image. This image is before I started "tweaking" the system.I have in mind to use this image to restore the system and give it a try, before starting all over again.I will be happy to have your opinion about this. Thanks again.Motim

I do apologize, I'm not following.

You ran the inplace repair using the 1803 iso, correct?

Once that was done or in its place you did steps 1-5 on DISM Tutorial. Was any corruption detected? Was it repaired?

I'm not a tweaker, I might run a registry change from a Brink tutorial but I do not change the registry to any extent so I'm of little help there.

If something has been altered in registry it is quite possible the changes above will not reset. So yes you would have to resort to an original image before you made changes.

Hello,Thanks for your answers.Sorry for the mixup. Problems started (2 days ago) when I tried to uninstall "Mixed Reality Portal"(my pc not compatible with this thing) so I followed instructions from "https://winaero.com/blog/uninstall-mixed-reality-windows-10/" and disabling "Edge" which I do not use. What I wrote yesterday ("Short History") was 10 days ago when finished the upgrade to 1803.So today I decided to use the last good Macrium image to restore the system. When done, ran recommended Dism checks - no corruptions found, as on attached screenshot. Now I still want to uninstall this "Mixed Reality Portal" and not to have again some issues. Any ideas ?Answers will be appreciated.ThanksMotim

Versions 1809 and 1903 will allow you to just right click those in the start menu and uninstall with no ill effects. 1803 will not.

Now that is an answer I like.

Now while you say the Mixed Reality Portal is not compatible with your device if you just ignore it does it cause a crash.

This may be the best route until you get to 1809 and use Porthos's solution.

I would not be messing with Edge at all. Just delete start and task bar icons. If you were to delete I would use powershell in this tutorial

    Uninstall Apps in Windows 10

I know you want to remove, your PC your call.
