    Task Manager

I have attached a screenshot taken just now of my Task Manager. Isn't that Memory number running awfully high? The one thing that is really huge is Firefox, around 700 MB and I only have two tabs open.

Bear in mind that Windows makes the best possible use of available memory automatically. There are times where it may appear to use more memory than is necessary, but it will throttle that back if the memory is needed for other tasks.

So we are using 49% of available memory currently - but 49% of what? How much memory does this system have?

For comparison, right now I'm running on a laptop with 16GB RAM and the only program I am actively running is Edge and I'm using 27% RAM.

I'd be more concerned about the disk and CPU usage, unless you know what's using those.

(The specs say 6Gb for Sys 1, 4Gb Sys 2)

700MB seems just fine, mine browser takes 900 MB - 1 tab - this webpage actually. You can use Cleanmem to deal with leaked memory, but posting Performance - Memory tab, would be more useful.

I agree, those are very high.

50% of 4-6GB is not a problem, I currently have ~5GB RAM in use without anything major open.

With the limited information provided it is impossible to tell if there is anything wrong. A screenshot of the performance tab showing memory information would be more useful as a starting point. There are many reasons why what you are seeing would be perfectly normal. 700 MB memory usage by Firefox is not unusual. I have often seen it higher. I wouldn't consider 49% usage as abnormal on a 6 GB system. Memory usage is highly dynamic and the memory manager will reassign memory as needed to optimize performance. Minimizing memory usage is not a priority. This is as it should be.

Percentage of memory used is not as important as amount actually used. 2GB used of 4GB total memory is much more that 2 of 16GB. So it's more important to know just how much memory is every process using and if there are some processes that shouldn't be running.
