    4) hideous slow 3rd party A/V (Anti Virus) Software -- particularly things like Macaffee and the like -- uninstall - you don't need it these days -- WD is perfectly more than adequate for the typical home user.
I take it you mean Windows defender? I currently use avast antivirus, and Malwarebytes anti-malware. These have been reliable so far do you know if they are problematic?

The subject of this thread "Best tutorials/recommendations for speeding up a slow computer" is two-fold and is an excellent combination of wanting to fix your slow computer to include proper forums to succeed on how to get your computer in best shape.
--- You have a Dell Inspiron 5765 laptop which I believe is newer than my Dell Inspiron 580 desktop from 2011 that runs as good as new thanks to the information provided in our forums.

The first thing I would do is create a system image backup.
--- In addition backup your data as well.

Then go to Dell support and download & run their Dell SupportAssist for PCs and tablets

You will have choices to scan your hardware, clean files, tune performance & optimize network.
--- You will also have options for drivers. If updating drivers is recommend, I wouldn't do that yet: post back here on what is recommended.

    Let us know the outcome.

    Hi there
those aren´t the main culprits although these days WD is more than adequate -- it's usually things like macaffee that seem the main slow computer culprits

Post #1 “None of the tutorials linked in this forum seem to be directly about this topic, unless I missed something.”
There are many forums related to the topic at hand: the issue is there are many reasons the topic at hand directly occur.

After running Dell’s SupportAssist for PCs and tablets, I’m hoping it will be helpful to some degree.

After that I’m hoping the tutorial to optimize performance of windows 10 Brink mentions in post #4 will be good to go through. I’ve used it myself and it was very helpful when I did.
