    A Question About Disk Activity

Hey everyone. Just a quick question. When I open the Task Manager and look at the disk graphic in the performance tab, I can see that my main disk (which is an SSD) reads and writes every couple seconds even when I'm not running any programs. Is this normal? I know that Windows runs many of its own services in the background so I'm assuming this has something to do with that but I wanted to be sure. Thanks.

    Hi, that's higher than mine:

    - but it also depends on any startup programs you may have running too.

You could compare when running in Safe Mode and after a clean boot if you wish.

Yeah pretty typical, Windows is always running stuff in the background that accesses the disk. Now if you see disk activity running at high levels all the time you need to look into it.

Actually it was something that bothered me a lot when I first started using win7. WinXP would go completely idle on disk access, then win7 started doing that at times, now with win10 it's all the time. If you look at the detail view in the task manager you can see what's active to some extent.
