Connecting the disk to DisplayLink (powered) hub and its USB 3.0 port yields the same result: disk is recognised as USB 2.0 only.

We're looking for a workstation / desktop PC to connect this disk to & see what happens.

EDITED TO ADD: We've just checked it on some old HP laptop with Windows 7 onboard. It's still connecting in USB 2.0 mode, however we're also getting this:

"USB 3.0 This device can perform faster. This USB Mass Storage Device can transfer information faster if you connect it to a Super-Speed USB 3.0 port"

The trouble is that all 4 ports in this laptop are USB 3.0 ports and the result is the same in each of them.

Remaining genuinely puzzled (and still looking for desktop PC / workstation nearby).
