Odd desire to Slow PC down

    Hi

My PC is quite a fast and I want to slow it down Yes I know that probably sounds nuts but having worked with computers for 20 years I can work pretty quickly and don't want to, all the time. Is there an app that might allow me to throttle parts of the hardware so W10 & all it's apps run a little slower?

I have an i7/16gb laptop which I'd like to slow, sometimes. I've recently used an i5/4gb which is ridiculously slow, but using it made me appreciate the benefits of not using a dozen apps all at once & at high speed, as I've done for many years.

I considered removing RAM, but that's impractical - I'm after an app which I can click a button to hit the brakes/slow pace or back up to full speed at other times.

    Thank you

Power settings. Change the Max to say 60 or 70%, see what happens. Tinker with it.

Then there's this free program which limits CPU usage:

If you can adjust clock speed in BIOS, you could under-clock it. Base i7 is probably 4.20, back it off to 3.8 or lower.

I'd second the option of simply using the inbuilt power plans. I set three up when I last installed and the efficacy of them can hopefully be seen here which shows the same CPU intense task run in turn. You can see the time taken increase from one to the next. Max processor speeds set to 100%, 80% and 60% respectively with 'ECO 1 & 2' also having the cooling option changed from Active to Passive.

I think you need to make an appointment to see your doctor

Seriously though, why not just do less? Sit back a bit, don't be so aggressive. Enjoy the performance without taking it as a challenge to do more?

Donate some of your computer cycles to SETI or one of the other massive computer projects. Just seems almost criminal to intentionally cripple a fast machine.

I watch TV while I computer, that way it doesn't matter how fast the computer is, I'm in slow motion.

The good part is I never have to wait on the PC.

Thank you for the suggestions, they look great and I will investigate/experiment.

ZTruker, after 20 years in tech working in high stress environments (which I enjoyed!), it seems ingrained in me to think/work quick when behind a keyboard and monitor. A windows PC gives so many options: all the apps, browser sessions etc, it's easy to move very fast and do a lot of stuff quickly. It was necessary then. Most of the time it's not now.
Incidentally, i don't have the same problem on an ipad or phone, they are just naturally slow and cumbersome compared to a pc.

For health reasons it's good for me to slow now

I don't want to permanently slow the machine, just better control/limit my computer use.... sometimes working quick, but not all the time.

    Don't work too fast

    Thanks
